To create my custom formulation, Prose first got me to take a quiz about my hair, scalp, lifestyle, and styling routine. The quiz was surprisingly detailed and took into account important factors such as the local climate and water quality. After taking the quiz, Prose showed me an analysis of my hair and broke down some of the key ingredients recommended for my hair care.

The custom hair care range recommended for me was quite extensive, ranging from the basics such as shampoo and conditioner to hair masks, styling gel, and dry shampoo. However, there was no obligation to purchase all of the custom products. Instead, each product is available for purchase individually. As I keep my haircare routine pretty simple, I chose the Custom Conditioner (C$40 for 250 ml), Custom Shampoo (C$40 for 250 ml), Custom Hair Oil (C$64 for 50 ml), and Custom Leave-In Conditioner (C$37 for 150 ml). Lastly and very importantly, Prose allows you to choose the scent of your products. There were several options to choose from and I picked "Corsica", a fresh fruity floral with notes of pear and peony.

Granted, the custom products are not cheap but Prose usually offers some sort of promotion (e.g., 50% off custom haircare and free shipping) so the overall price is rather reasonable. I've been using the products for over a month now and I have been very pleased. All the products are silicone-free and well-formulated. My Custom Shampoo contains spirulina, vitamin B6, green tea, and shikakai extract; it lathers beautifully and leaves my hair feeling clean but not stripped. My Custom Conditioner, on the other hand, contains fermented rice water, plum oil, and hyaluronic acid; it makes my hair silky smooth but not weighed down.

The Custom Leave-In Conditioner contains ingredients similar to those in my Custom Conditioner. However, the formulation is lighter and dispenses from a spray nozzle. It protects my hair from heat and humidity and is surprisingly lightweight. Lastly, my Custom Hair Oil contains shea and poppyseed oil. A little goes a long way; I only use a few drops on my ends to prevent splitting. It keeps things tangle-free and silky soft. Overall, I had a great experience creating and using my custom haircare products with Prose. If you love personalized beauty products, Prose is a must-try!
