Packaging:Ditching the old champagne gold packaging (see
here), the new Joli Rouge lipsticks have a more modern and luxurious look. A three-dimensional relief of the Clarins logo wraps around the case, reminiscent of the YSL lipsticks. The classic Joli Rouge retains its champagne gold color while the Joli Rouge Shine gets a modern all-white update. My favorite of the three is the bright red packaging of the Joli Rouge Velvet. All the cases are refillable; the three different colored cases are available on their own (C$16 each) and all 52 shades are available as refills (C$26 each). You can easily mix and match the cases and refills to create a customized look.

Formulation:Available in 23 shades, the classic satin Joli Rouge features a slick and pigmented formulation. The color goes on super smoothly and it gives the lips a lightweight, nourishing sheen. The formulation has a bit of an old-school lipstick scent but I would have much rather preferred a lighter, fruity or floral scent. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful cream lipstick with a flattering formulation.
Joli Rouge | 743 Cherry Red: This is a very bright red with a pink undertone. Personally, it's a bit too loud for me but the formulation is very nice.

Joli Rouge | 773 Pink Tulip: Another very bright color, 773 Pink Tulip is an almost-neon warm pink. The color is a touch patchy but it is very buildable.

Available in 13 shades, the Joli Rouge Shine features a sheerer formulation with a bit more shine. The formulation is also more forgiving and it feels slicker and more hydrating. However, the color definitely wears off faster.
Joli Rouge Shine | 775S Nude Brick: With a subtle splash of iridescent shimmer particles, this is a beautiful sheer brown nude that still lets my natural lip color show. The translucent finish makes the lips appear more plump and nourished.

Available in 16 shades, the Joli Rouge Velvet is a soft matte lipstick with a surprisingly creamy and comfortable formulation. The colors are smooth and opaque, not overly drying or silicone-y. Out of the three formulations, the Joli Rouge Velvet is definitely the longest-lasting. It's not completely smudge- or transfer-proof but it will withstand some light eating or drinking.
Joli Rouge Velvet | 781V Red Grape: My favorite of the bunch, this is a sophisticated wine red. The color is not too dark or vampy so it's very wearable.

Joli Rouge Velvet | 784V Praline Nude: This is a pretty brown nude. Shades like this tend to be a bit patchy but Praline Nude is pigmented and full-coverage.

Below is a compilation of all five shades. As you can see, all three finishes are beautiful and unique in their own ways. I think my personal fave is the Joli Rouge Shine and would love to try out more shades from that range. Which of the three finishes is your favorite?
