During the holidays, Briogeo sent me a small gift set featuring one of their bestselling products, the Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo (C$57 for 236 ml). I've tried a couple of similar products (ex. Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt, Lush Big Shampoo) before and have mixed feelings. Packaged in a simple plastic jar, the Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo is a sulfate-free shampoo scrub formulated with coconut oil, charcoal, tea tree oil, and peppermint oil. With a thick, creamy consistency similar to a hair mask, the formulation is also packed with fine, plant-based microcrystal (plastic-free) particles that provide scalp exfoliation. The Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo has a super refreshing herbal scent and feels slightly tingly on the scalp.
The formulation lathers rather well and the scrubbing particles are not abrasive. The product leaves the hair and scalp feeling very clean, although my hair does feel a bit tangly after use so it needs to be followed with a conditioner. Overall, I actually quite enjoy the Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo. It's definitely less abrasive and drying than the Lush Big Shampoo and lathers better than the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub. It's not something I would use every time I wash my hair, but once a month or so would be great for clearing any build-up.
