Over the past few years, we've been really embracing the glowy, dewy skin look but slowly, I've been noticing a resurgence of natural matte finishes. Staying right on top of the trends,
Glow Recipe just introduced a brand-new serum that doubles as a pore-smoothing primer. I've got all the details of the
Strawberry BHA Pore-Smooth Blur Drops (C$42 for 30 ml) to share with you today, along with my review. To read on, click......
Housed in the most adorable plastic squeeze bottle that reminds me of purse-friendly hand cream similar to the
Chanel Le Crème Main, the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore-Smooth Blur Drops is described as an "all-in-one, silicone-free primer and serum" that blurs the pores and absorbs excess oil. With a soft strawberry scent and the typical light and runny consistency of a serum, the Strawberry BHA Pore-Smooth Blur Drops is formulated with tapioca starch and rice powder to absorb oil. Also containing encapsulated BHA (salicylic acid) and strawberry enzyme, the serum gently clears the pores and smoothes skin textures.
The serum applies very smoothly on the skin and sets quickly to a soft matte finish with no palpable finish. The formulation doesn't feel super hydrating so it definitely needs to be topped with a moisturizer for some hydration. The Blur Drops doubles as a primer when applied over a moisturizer. I find that the silicone-free formulation is not like your typical mattifying primer. The pore-blurring effect is subtle but thankfully, there's no pilling or patching, great for those that want a more natural look.
Overall, this is an interesting product with a cool concept and cute packaging. However, I'm not sure how well it fits into my current skincare routine. The formulation is not hydrating enough and the BHA content is likely too low to make a significant difference in terms of decongesting the pores. The serum also doesn't really have any other important properties that I am looking for (ex. plumping, brightening) and the blurring effect is a bit too subtle for me to call it a primer. Personally, I much rather prefer the
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops, which has really become my favorite serum over the past couple of years!
