Sahajan Brightening Mask, Indigo recently sent me a bunch of clean skincare products to promote the launch of their Vancouver Robson St Beauty & Wellness Shop. I was very excited to be introduced to so many indie skincare brands, including
Graydon, a Canadian company based in Toronto. Founded by vegan chef and yoga instructor Graydon Moffat, Graydon is a plant-based skincare company dedicated to "nutrient-dense, clinically-proven superfood ingredients". Today I want to take a closer look at the Graydon
Moon Boost Serum (C$89 for 30 ml), to read all about it, click......

Housed in a simple but elegant clear glass bottle with a dropper dispenser, the Graydon Moon Boost Serum is described as a "hydrating vitamin serum" made with "non-comedogenic, nutrient-dense superfood oils and extracts". Made with a base of nourishing meadowfoam seed oil, the Graydon Moon Boost Serum contains a plethora of botanical oils and extracts that encompass vitamins A, B5, C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate
), D, E (Tocopherol
), F, and K. The formulation has a soft citrus scent and the consistency is that of a slightly viscous oil.

So although Moon Boost is named a serum, it really is a facial oil. I find that because the formulation is on the thicker side, I pretty much need a full pump to cover my entire face. However, the finish is not super greasy so you can probably get away with using it during the daytime as well. I definitely notice a nourishing effect from the Moon Boost Serum as it makes my skin soft and hydrated. However, I do worry about the stability of the vitamin C in the formulation. My bottle of Moon Boost has a dark and cloudy orange appearance, which looks very different from all the promotional material in which the serum looks transparent and light orange. Graydon assures that "natural variations in color are normal" and that "product efficacy is not affected by color". However, vitamin C turns dark orange or brown when oxidized which makes me believe that the vitamin C in my bottle has likely oxidized. Oxidized vitamin C not only loses its benefits, but may actually be harmful for the skin. The fact that the serum comes in a clear glass bottle does not help as light exposure decreases the efficacy of vitamin C (and many other ingredients).
So overall, while I really like the formulation of the Moon Boost Serum, I do question its shelf life and efficacy. It would be amazing if I am able to obtain the product fresh from the factory and use it within a couple months, but in reality that's just not possible.
