Glow Recipe. So it should come as no surprise that I've pretty much tried every product the brand has released to date. In fact, today's review of the
Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum (C$56 for 30 ml) completes my series of reviews on all five serums Glow Recipe currently has in stores. To learn all about this soothing serum, click......
Packaged in an adorable glass jar with a dimpled design reminiscent of a real avocado, the Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum is described as a "skin-soothing serum" that helps "reduce the look of redness and irritation caused by dehydration and a weak skin barrier". Formulated with jojoba oil, avocado oil, avocado extract, and niacinamide, the serum also contains five different types of ceramides intended to really lock in moisture. Judging by its description, I was expecting a fairly rich consistency so I was surprised to find the serum so runny and lightweight. In fact, the Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum feels just as pleasant and easy to spread as some of Glow Recipe's lighter serums (ex.
Guava Vitamin C Serum,
Strawberry Smooth Serum).
As someone with combination, oily skin and a fairly active lifestyle, I tend to find ceramide-containing products to be a tad heavy. For example, I struggled a lot with the reformulated Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer with Ceramides from Drunk Elephant (reviewed
here) because it felt like the ceramides in the moisturizer formed an impenetrable shield on top of my skin. This was obviously the intended effect to prevent moisture loss but for someone who produces a healthy amount of sebum and perspiration, I felt that my skin couldn't really breathe under the cream. Therefore, I had similar concerns before trying the Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum. Surprisingly, though, I did not experience any issues with the formulation. The serum applies beautifully onto the skin, leaving no heavy residue and layering perfectly well with other products without creating a mask-like feeling. However, it's worth noting that because the serum does contain some avocado oil, which can be comedogenic (pore-clogging), it might not be the best for those with acne-prone skin. Also, if you have extremely dry skin and are looking for a heavy-duty ceramide product, this alone probably won't do the job. Personally, I think the Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum is great for those with normal to dry skin. If you are looking for some extra hydration and nourishment but without any heaviness or greasiness, definitely give this a try!
