Charlotte Tilbury | Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Foundation |
Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Foundation comes in a squeeze tube topped with an airless pump dispenser. The design is very convenient, lightweight, and mess-free although the plastic squeeze tube doesn't feel as luxurious as a glass bottle. Nevertheless, the packaging is decked out with rose gold accents to elevate the look.
Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Water, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Mica, Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Propanediol, Glycerin, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Sodium Chloride, Lauroyl Lysine, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Gluconate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Maltodextrin, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Aluminum Hydroxide, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract, Pentylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, [+/- Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499)].
Made with hyaluronic acid, rose water, rose oil, and achiote seed extract (aka Bix-Activ), Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Foundation promises to hydrate the skin while also providing a glowy, blurring finish. With no noticeable scent, the foundation has a thick but creamy consistency that's surprisingly difficult to spread. The formulation seems to instantly cling to the skin and it didn't blend very easily so I needed a lot more product than I expected to cover my entire face. The coverage is a true medium and it's not really buildable. When I tried to layer on more product, the finish got a bit patchy. As you may be able to see in the swatches below, the foundation is very glowy. There is a noticeable dewy sheen that almost looks like I mixed a liquid highlighter with a liquid foundation. As someone with combination skin, I personally don't find the finish flattering but given the current trends, some people may really like the very, very radiant finish.
Charlotte Tilbury | Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Foundation in "2 Neutral" |
In terms of blurring and refining the skin, Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Foundation definitely falls short. The extra-glowy finish really emphasizes textures. Little bumps I have under my eyes, for example, never looked so defined. It's also worth noting that aside from being very dewy, the finish of the foundation doesn't fully set so even the lightest graze means that the pigments will transfer. Unless you are okay with getting makeup all over your clothes and whatever else your face touches throughout the day, you will have to set the foundation with a good powder. Because the foundation never truly set, it easily moved around on my face, settling into pores and fine lines. I noticed significant settling not long after application, especially around my nose and eye area. I'm going to be honest and admit that I didn't do a full day wear test for this foundation because after just a couple of hours I already couldn't stand what I was saying and can you really blame me after the traumatic experience I had with the Airbrush Flawless Foundation (reviewed here) from Charlotte Tilbury? One positive thing I will say about the foundation, though, is how moisturizing and comfortable it feels on the skin. It almost feels like I'm just wearing a nice, nourishing face cream.
Overall, this is just not the foundation for me. After the absolute disaster that was the Airbrush Flawless Foundation, it's clear to me that Charlotte Tilbury foundations and I just don't jive. I feel that if you have young, smooth, near-perfect skin and are looking for some major glow, then this foundation is for you. However, if you struggle with any skin issues (ex. enlarged pores, dryness, oiliness, fine lines), then this foundation is going to be challenging.
