Dior introduced a new range of lip stains called the
Dior Addict Lip Tint (C$45 for 6 ml). Effectively replacing the
Dior Addict Lip Tattoo that was originally released back in 2017, the new Dior Addict Lip Tint comes in a revamped packaging with a refreshed formulation. To read all about the product and to see some swatches of a few shades, click......
Packaging:
The new Dior Addict Lip Tint looks mostly the same as the old Dior Addict Lip Tattoo (reviewed
here). Housed in a completely opaque tube embossed with the Dior logo, the packaging is colored to reflect the shade inside. However, the color is not very accurate so do not rely on it when choosing which shade to purchase. Finally, the tube is topped with the easily recognizable silver knob design from Dior and the tint applies with a paddle-shaped doe-foot applicator.
Formulation:
Available in 12 vibrant shades, the Dior Addict Lip Tint feels virtually the same as the old Dior Addict Lip Tattoo, although it is updated with more natural-origin ingredients and additional nourishing ingredients such as sweet cherry seed oil. With a lightweight, gel-like formulation, the Dior Addict Lip Tint has a sweet, vanilla scent. The product initially feels wet and cooling on the lips but then quickly takes on a mild stinging sensation. I took a closer look at the ingredients and noticed that it contains cayenne pepper extract, which undoubtedly is the culprit. The burning sensation is only temporary and although it's not a deal breaker, I cannot fathom why the ingredient is included.
To be completely honest, I was not a big fan of the original Dior Addict Lip Tattoo due to its uneven finish and the lackluster wear time. So my feelings for the Dior Addict Lip Tint remain mostly the same. However, I do have some tips that I've learned over the years to make the product work a little better. Firstly, unlike traditional liquid lip stains, the Dior Addict Lip Tint has a wet, natural finish. If left alone, this shiny but non-sticky finish tampers with the longevity and the evenness of the color so I would recommend blotting it away completely and topping the tint with a hydrating balm. This way, the color becomes transfer-proof and you won't have to worry about any unsightly milky splotches that result from any unabsorbed tint coming in contact with water.
Additionally, because the Dior Addict Lip Tint clings to dry patches like no tomorrow, it is imperative that you exfoliate your lips before application. To be frank, if you often struggle with dry lips, this product is simply not for you. Unless your lips are completely smooth and perfectly hydrated, the Dior Addict Lip Tint will cling to the slightest bit of dryness and to the inner rim of your lips, creating a very unflattering, patchy effect, especially as it fades throughout the day. Overall, this is a beautifully packaged lip stain that I'm sure has a large fan base. Personally, however, I find the formulation way too high-maintenance and the learning curve is steep. So when I'm hurrying out the door in the morning, this is not the product I'll reach for. I know they really aren't in the same category but the Dior Lip Glow is a much better alternative if you are looking for a natural tint of color and a bit of shine.
251 Natural Peach: This is a soft coral peach. The color is a lot more vibrant than its packaging would suggest.
351 Natural Nude: Unlike what its name suggests, this is a beautiful rosy pink with a surprising amount of pigmentation.
491 Natural Rosewood: Another color that wears much darker than I would have guessed based on the name and packaging, Natural Rosewood is a deep rosy plum.
561 Natural Poppy: This is a sheer bright red. The color is as orange as I had expected.
761 Natural Fuchsia: This is a beautiful bright pink, perfect for the summertime!
771 Natural Berry: Shockingly similar to Natural Rosewood (it was honestly hard to tell them apart), this is a medium wine red. In comparison to Natural Rosewood, Natural Berry has a bit more pink.
