Dior has created every iteration of the Rouge Dior Lipstick, the brand surprises me with a brand new take. Made with 95% natural-origin ingredients including red peony extract and pomegranate flower extract, the new
Rouge Dior Lip Balm (C$49 for 3.5 g) is a refillable tinted balm perfect for the everyday makeup look. I've got reviews and swatches of a few of my favorites shades to share with you today. To read on, click......
Packaging:The Rouge Dior Lip Balm comes in the classic lacquered black lipstick tube adorned with intricate silver detailing of iconic Dior emblems. The packaging is actually refillable but currently, I don't see the lip balm refill shades (C$39 each) available on Sephora (and the link on the Dior website is broken). It's worth noting though that because they have the same packaging, the Rouge Dior Lipstick and Rouge Dior Lip Balm refills are interchangeable.
Formulation:The Rouge Dior Lip Balm comes in a nice array of flattering shades in three different finishes: natural, satin, and matte. I have here two of the satins and two shades of mattes. Formulation-wise, there's a distinct difference between the two. The matte Rouge Dior Lip Balms have a soft balmy texture. It's decently pigmented to provide medium coverage and the finish has a soft satin-matte sheen. The satin Rouge Dior Lip Balms, on the other hand, have a much slicker texture with a more luminous, shiny finish. The pigmentation, however, is slightly sheerer than the mattes and I do find the formulation a bit unforgiving if you have very dry lips as the color clings to patches and creases. Therefore, a little bit of lip prep may be needed to ensure a smooth and even finish. As the Rouge Dior Lip Balm is ultimately a tinted lip balm, the longevity is lacking. There's notable fading/transferring with eating and drinking so regular touch-ups are required throughout the day. The formulation, however, is lightly moisturizing and it has a subtle floral fragrance.
742 Solstice: This is a sophisticated brick red, the color looks a bit more vibrant on the lips than it does in the tube.
760 Favorite: A favorite of mine (pun intended), this shade is a youthful pinkish red.
846 Concorde: A natural sheer red with a subtle warm undertone, Concorde looks a lot more brick-red in the tube than it wore on the lips. Keep in mind that because these balms are semi-sheer, your natural lip color will peek through and alter how the color looks.
999: This is the tinted balm version of the iconic Dior 999 red, which is a true red with a hint of pink. Honestly, this shade is quite similar to Concorde, at least when worn on my lips. The only difference is that 999 is cooler while Concorde is warmer.
