Clé de Peau Holiday 2020 The Enchanted Lake Collection,
The Serum (C$395 for 50 ml) is one of Clé de Peau's bestselling skincare products that was recently reformulated alongside the brand's iconic La Crème (reviewed
here). The limited-edition version of The Serum I received as a part of holiday collection features a special packaging but the formulation is the same as the original. Described as the "crucial first step" in the skincare ritual, The Serum promises to "deliver vital moisture to the skin while supporting the absorption and efficacy of the skincare treatments that follow". I've got all the details and my review to share with you today. To read on, click......
Housed in a stunning multi-faceted glass bottle paired with a pump dispenser, the Holiday 2020 Limited Edition The Serum features an iridescent lavender-blue tint and some illustrations of swans in flight. The original version has a very similar packaging but with a more warm iridescent tint and no printed images. The Serum is available in two sizes, a smaller 30 ml bottle and the 50 ml bottle I have here.
With a lightweight, watery consistency and a subtle floral fragrance, The Serum contains several key ingredients, including protective platinum golden silk extract, amino acid-rich pearl shell extract, hydrating snow fungus, moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid, and a handful of botanical extracts known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The serum spreads very easily on the skin and it feels instantly hydrating. It absorbs very quickly and leaves behind no discernable residue.
Although silicone-free, The Serum is quite heavy on alcohol (third ingredient), which may be a deal-breaker for some. I don't love its inclusion but I don't think it significantly affects the performance of The Serum. Speaking of which, I don't think the Clé de Peau The Serum is the most effective serum I've tried. Other than feeling instantly refreshing and layering well with other skincare products, The Serum hasn't made any significant changes to my skin. It's definitely not the most hydrating, brightening, or anti-aging serum I've tried. Granted, these are not Clé de Peau's claims as The Serum is really designed to boost the efficacy of other skincare products. However, that's very difficult to measure directly without some form of scientific approach. Overall, The Serum is a fine product. I like the packaging, the scent, the consistency, and the application experience. However, I'm not sure it plays a vital role in my skincare routine, especially coupled with its hefty price tag. With that said, if you are already invested in the Clé de Peau La Crème or any other skincare products from Clé de Peau, The Serum is probably a good option for you as it is designed specifically to work with other Clé de Peau products.
