Packaging:
The Fenty Beauty Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palettes are available individually. Each comes in a small, lightweight plastic compact that holds six 1 g eyeshadows. The palette is designed with grooves on the bottom that allow it to snap back-to-back with another palette. This allows the customization of different palettes in a travel-friendly way.
Initially, it took me a little bit of time to figure out how to put two palettes together as there are no instructions/directions on the packaging. I kept on trying to slide the grooves of the two palettes against each other instead of lining the palettes back-to-back and pressing them together. The compacts don't take a lot of effort to "snap" together but it does take a couple of tries to figure out where to press to ensure a secure click.
Personally, I'm not sure I quite understand the mix and match concept. Each Snap Shadows palette contains six complementary colors designed to create a complete eye look. Therefore, I don't see the need to pair two of them together. Had Fenty divided the palettes into mattes, shimmers, neutrals, and so on, I can see the incentive to combine them for a full look. However, as it stands, each palette works perfectly on its own and even if someone were to purchase several of them, I don't see the point of combining them into pairs.
Formulation:
The Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette is available in eight color schemes, most of which contain a combination of mattes and shimmers/metallics. There are appears to be a number of online criticism on the pigmentation and texture of the shadows but based on the two palettes I have here, I've not experienced the same issue. "
3 Deep Neutrals" is one of the several neutral palette options available. The name is slightly misleading because the palette offers a mix of light to dark warm tones so I think "Warm Neutrals" is probably a better name.
Nude Booty: This is a neutral taupe brown. The matte formulation is silky and pigmented
Fiya Freak: A rich burnt orange, Fiya Freak is another nice and pigmented matte.
Shots Fired: The only dud of the palette, Shots Fired is a burgundy brown with a sheer and patchy formulation. However, if you are only using this shade as a smoke or crease color, it should blend just fine.
A definite standout from the mostly neutral options, the Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette in "
8 Pastel Frost" is a whimsical combination of soft spring, cotton candy colors. All six shades are packed with shimmers and they are all rich and pigmented. There's a bit of fallout with a few of the shades but since the colors are light, the clean-up is super easy.
Ice Cream Kisses: Pretty pale pink.
Lady Pimp: Gorgeous lavender purple.
Durty Denim: Icy teal blue.
Muva's Boy: Soft sky blue.
Mula-la: Pale grass green.
Lei'd Up: Playful yellow-gold.
Overall, I'm a little on the fence about this range of palettes from Fenty Beauty. Based on the two palettes I have here, I satisfied with the price point and formulation. However, I'm a little baffled about the mix and match concept as each palette holds enough shades for a complete eye look so the pair and snap idea just doesn't make much sense.
