Earlier this year, German drugstore favorite
Catrice Cosmetics made its debut in Canada. Known for its high-performance products and affordable prices, the brand's cult-favorite is the
HD Liquid Coverage Foundation (C$13.99). Currently available in 18 shades (more launching next year), the foundation promises a lightweight coverage that mattifies and lasts all day. I've had a few full-day test drives with the foundation so I wanted to share with you my thoughts today. To read my review and see some before and after comparisons, click......

Packaging:
The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle. Because the formulation is quite liquid, the bottle features a glass dropper instead of a pump dispenser. The dropper definitely provides more control with how much product gets dispensed but it does get pretty messy.

Formulation:
With a fairly thin and runny formulation, the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation provides a buildable medium-high to high coverage that camouflages most discolorations and blemishes. With a breathable finish that's matte and lightweight, the foundation feels very comfortable on the skin. I have some textural imperfections due to emerging fine lines and enlarged pores and I find the HD Liquid Coverage Foundation a bit too "clingy". Because of its thinner consistency, the formulation doesn't provide enough cushioning, thereby emphasizing pores, fine lines, and any areas of dryness. This issue does improve with wear as I have oily skin which "balances" things out after a while but the formulation is probably not suitable for those with dry skin.

Catrice | HD Liquid Coverage Foundation in "010 Light Beige", "020 Rose Beige", & "030 Sand Beige" |
"
010 Light Beige" is a pale ivory with subtle yellow undertones, "
020 Rose Beige" is a light peach beige with strong pink undertones, and "
030 Sand Beige" is a warm light beige. Although available in 18 shades, the color selection feels quite limited as these are the three lightest shades available. I am wearing the lightest shade here (for reference, I'm a MAC NC15) so if you are paler than me, you are pretty much out luck. Additionally, it's worth noting that I experienced some minor oxidation so make sure to give it some time during color-matching to ensure a true match.

Catrice | HD Liquid Coverage Foundation in "010 Light Beige" |
In terms of wear, the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation performed quite well. Excessive shine and an overly dewy finish are what I often struggle with but the foundation kept sebum at bay. My only complaint is that when paired with a powder, the finish does get cakey as time goes on, making it quite obvious that I am wearing makeup. Overall, the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is a very good high-coverage foundation with a lightweight matte finish. I personally love the long-lasting wear but am not a fan of the thin, texture-hugging consistency. If you are looking for a long-wearing, pigmented foundation at a super affordable price, then this is a great option! However, if you are willing to invest more money, I recommend trying the
Lancome Teint Idole, which features a superior formulation that offers all the same features and more.
