Ever since its release a couple years back, the
Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks have been my go-to for when I need my lip color to last all day. So when I saw the recent release of the
SuperStay Ink Crayon ($9.49 CAD for 1.2 g), I was beyond excited! Available in 12 shades and promising an 8-hour wear, this lip crayon provides a matte and vibrant pop of color that seriously rivals that of the original liquid lipsticks. I've got a review and swatches of a few shades from the range to share with you today. To read on, click......

Packaging:
The Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon comes in a standard twist-up and retractable crayon pen. The tip is tapered to a point and to help maintain a precise application, the Ink Crayon has a small sharpener hidden at the base.

Formulation:
With a super pigmented formulation that's surprisingly slick and creamy, the SuperStay Ink Crayon applies like a regular lipstick but sets quickly to a matte, smudge-proof finish. The vanilla-scented formulation really clings to the lips, making it almost 100% transfer-proof. A miniscule amount of pigments will transfer during the tissue test but the color will last through moderate eating and drinking, with only minor fading. Although not drying, the formulation is not as comfortable as a regular cream lipstick, but I think it feels a bit thinner and more breathable as compared to the original SuperStay Matte Ink. With that said, the longevity is not as impressive and the coverage is not as opaque. Depending on the shade, the finish can be a bit uneven. Because the formulation sets so quickly to a grippy, matte finish, it's tricky to build a fresh layer of color without dragging and tugging. With practice, however, it's definitely achievable. See below for a breakdown of the five shades I have here.

25 Stay Exceptional: A flattering rosy pink, this shade is your classic, sophisticated everyday color. The finish is very matte and I experienced no patchiness.

35 Treat Yourself: This is a hot bright pink that almost borders on neon. The color is definitely out of my comfort zone but the coverage is even and opaque.

50 Own Your Empire: A classic true red, Own your Empire is pigmented but a touch uneven. As you can see in the lip swatches below, the finish is a bit patchy as it was very hard to build the color on the smoother parts of the lips. With that said, unless you examine my lips up close, the patchiness is not noticeable from afar.

55 Make It Happen: This is gorgeous wine red. Similar to Own Your Empire, the finish is slightly uneven. But as mentioned previously, it's possible to obtain a more opaque coverage with a swift but careful application that comes with practice.

60 Accept A Dare: Last but not least is this medium mauve-pink. The formulation a lot more even in comparison to the reds and the color is unique but wearable.

Not surprisingly, I really like the Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayons! The formulation is not perfect due to the quick-drying and tricky to build coverage (on a few shades only) but I love the smudge-proof, long-lasting matte finish that will last through eating and drinking! For those that are looking for a stick version of the Matte Ink, the Ink Crayon is definitely a great option!
