For Fall 2019, Dior Makeup Creative and Image Director Peter Philips has created two new lip products that not only look amazing but also nourish the lips with a "caring" formulation infused with camelina oil. I've got a couple shades of both the new
Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick ($49 CAD) and
Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick ($49 CAD) to share with you today. To read on, click......
Dior | Rouge Dior Ultra Care Lipstick ($49 CAD for 3.2 g):
Housed in a lacquer red and shiny silver case identical to that of the
Rouge Dior Ultra Lipstick released last fall, the Rouge Dior Ultra Care is a weightless, moisturizing lipstick made with a "CD" core infused with camelina oil and jojoba derivatives. Available in ten fall-friendly shades, the lipstick is super rich and nourishing. Although the "CD" core looks like a white balm, it actually contains lots of super fine pearlescent shimmer particles. They don't make the finish shimmery but they do provide extra dimensions to the pigments.
I have here the shade "
989 Violet", a deep plummy burgundy. It's very vampy and pigmented but the formulation feels a touch drier in comparison to "
999 Bloom", which is the iconic Dior red. Both shades, along with the rest of the shades in the Ultra Care range, are supposed to be matte but they are satin at most. In terms of wear, these shades perform very well. There is still transferring and fading with eating and drinking but the high-pigment formulation helps the color last longer.
Dior | Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick ($49 CAD for 6 ml):
Formulated with camelina oil, almond oil, and shea butter, the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid is a liquid lipstick with a whipped cream texture that provides a comfortable and moisturizing wear. The shade range is a lot wider as compared to the Ultra Care Lipsticks, with 10 stain shades and 14 matte shades. Ultra Care Liquid comes in a frosted lip gloss tube paired with a concave, petal-shaped doe-foot applicator designed to hug the curves of the lips.
I have here a matte muted burnt orange called "635 Ecstase". The formulation is nicely pigmented and while the finish does set, it's not completely resistant to smudging or transferring. A tip I discovered while playing with this shade is to avoid applying too much as a thicker application doesn't set properly and is more prone to moving around on the lips.
"
855 Sensual" is bright scarlet red scattered with subtle metallic red particles. The finish is supposedly "satin" but it's not much different as compared to the matte "635 Ecstase". Although just as pigmented as the burnt orange, "855 Sensual" is not as opaque. The finish is not patchy per se but it's not as intense as I would have preferred. The Ultra Care Liquid reminds me a bit of a crossover of the
Chanel Rouge Allure Liquid Powder and
Rouge Allure Ink Matte but it's better executed than either. Personally, the formulation is still not my cup of tea as I prefer a last-all-day, 100% transfer-proof finish for my liquid lipsticks. However, the lightweight, moisturizing texture will draw in fans of a more comfortable liquid lipstick.
