With the launch of her new Airbrush Flawless Foundation (review to come soon),
Charlotte Tilbury is introducing an accompanying color corrector as well as a shade expansion of her
Magic Away Concealer ($38 CAD). Designed to camouflage dark circles and boost radiance, the
Magic Vanish Color Corrector ($38 CAD) is a key step to a flawless complexion. I've got reviews and swatches of both products to share with you today. To read on, click......
Charlotte Tilbury | Magic Vanish Color Corrector ($38 CAD for 2.5 g):
Housed in a small rose gold compact, the Magic Vanish is a color-correcting cream concealer designed to camouflage under-eye discoloration. Formulated with flavonoids (plant pigments) that hide dark circles, microspheres and carnauba wax that provide a smooth finish, Magic Vanish is available in four shades. I have here the lightest shade, "
Fair"; while it appears as a peachy beige in the pan and swatches quite warm on the back of my hand, it blends seamlessly under my eyes. As you can see in the swatches below, the product indeed takes away some of the purple/pink discoloration. After application, Charlotte Tilbury recommends using the Magic Away Concealer (see below) to bring back a more natural color. I can see that being necessary for some of the darker shades which look quite orange. However, with the shade "Fair" (in combination with my skin tone), an additional concealer is unnecessary. The corrector already goes on very naturally and depending on how much you apply, it can provide decent coverage.
The Magic Vanish formulation is creamy but not greasy but I find that applying with my fingertip leaves behind a streaky finish so I would recommend using a brush. There is minimal creasing with wear but because the finish is not 100% transfer-proof, it should be set with a powder. Overall, I'm a fan of the Magic Vanish. I like the natural yet effective color-correction and the fact that it provides a nice amount of coverage means it can double as a concealer.
Charlotte Tilbury | Magic Away Concealer ($38 CAD for 4 ml):
Now available in 20 shades, the Magic Away Concealer is a full-coverage liquid concealer formulated with Persian silk tree bark extract that refreshes skin, palmitoyl glycine that reduces the appearance of fine lines, and wild indigo extract that boosts luminosity. The unique feature of Magic Away is its packaging. Housed in a twist-to-dispense pen, the concealer is equipped with a flocked sponge cushion applicator designed to hug the under-eye contour. Although the applicator makes sense in theory, I find it quite impractical. To start, the size of the cushion is large, which means that it holds a lot product inside. I had to twist the pen a good couple of minutes (no joke) to get any concealer to even appear on the surface of the sponge.
As the formulation is pigmented, a lot goes a long way so I really don't need much product during each application. Therefore, a lot of concealer ends up sitting idle in the porous cushion applicator, becoming thicker over time. So after the first use, the concealer feels "dried out" on each subsequent application. Additionally, because it's so saturated with product, the cushion applicator cannot be used to blend the concealer, which further defeats its purpose. Therefore, I ended up pulling the entire cushion applicator off the tip, revealing the simple nozzle dispenser underneath. This way, the product dispenses directly from the nozzle and won't collect inside the cushion and sit to dry.
In terms of formulation, the Magic Vanish is also not without its flaws. Although nourishing, creamy, and pigmented, the formulation is very prone to creasing. (especially in the undereye area). It also does not sit well on the oily parts of my face, becoming quite cakey after a few hours of wear. It appears that the formulation does not adhere well to skin and will patch and fade with sebum production. I've tried wearing it alone and over top the Magic Vanish Color Corrector (see swatches below) and experienced creasing/fading in both cases. Therefore, this is not a liquid concealer that I would personally recommend for oily or combination.
