New for Summer 2019,
Givenchy has released a mascara and liquid eyeliner duo that promise disturbingly bold lashes and eyes. Equipped with a micro-bristle silicone brush, the
Volume Disturbia Mascara ($33 CAD) gives "excessive"
volume while the fine-tipped
Liner Disturbia ($33 CAD) touts a 24-hour, waterproof wear. So how well do they actually work? Read my review to find out......
Givenchy | Volume Disturbia Mascara ($33 CAD for 8 g):
Housed in a chrome red tube covered with raised studs, the Volume Disturbia Mascara is equipped with a fairly large silicone wand scattered with straight micro-bristles. Because I have relatively small eyes and short lashes, the larger wand size felt a bit clumsy. Additionally, because the tip is not tapered, I found it challenging to reach my inner and outer lashes without smudging the mascara or poking myself in the eyes.
The Volume Disturbia formulation is on the thinner side and it is also heavily fragranced with a floral scent. I personally quite like the smell but some may find it sensitizing. The mascara applies a bit clumpy, partly due to the formulation itself and partly due to the unwieldy wand. The formulation definitely adds volume but it's not very lengthening. It terms of wear, the mascara fared just okay. Because the formulation is not waterproof, the mascara will smudge if it comes in contact with humidity. Additionally, I have noticed some minor flaking. The good news, however, is that the mascara washes off easily with a regular cleanser, not requiring an oil-based or bi-phase remover. Overall, this is not the mascara for me. I would only recommend it to those with large eyes and long lashes that are looking for some extra volume.
Givenchy | Liner Disturbia Felt Tip Eyeliner ($33 CAD for 1.5 ml):
Housed in a red chrome pen similar to that of the mascara but without the studs, the Liner Disturbia Felt Tip Eyeliner has a very fine and flexible felt tip. Although the tip is precise, I personally would have preferred a stiffer design as I find a firmer tip easier to work with. In terms of formulation, the Liner Disturbia is smooth and quick-drying. However, the pigmentation feels weak as I needed several layers to obtain a completely opaque line. Additionally, the formulation is not waterproof, despite it being advertised as so. For those with oily skin or living in humid environments, there will definitely be smudging.
Overall, I'm not too impressed with this eyeliner. With so many amazing liquid eyeliners already on the market (ex.
Fenty Beauty Flyliner,
IT Cosmetics Superhero Liner, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, and Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner), Liner Disturbia just did does not hold up. The smaller, fine felt tip may be a draw for those that want a more precise application but Stila already offers a micro-tip version (reviewed
here) of its classic that's superior in formulation.
