As the weather heats up, my skin becomes more oily so breakouts are a common occurrence.
Biossance, the California-based skincare company committed to creating high-quality, effective, and non-toxic products, has recently released a squalane-based routine formulated with tea tree oil designed for oily and acne-prone skin. I've had a chance to test out all three, so to read my reviews, click.......
Biossance | Squalane + Tea Tree Cleansing Gel ($34 CAD for 150 ml):
Made with clarifying tea tree oil and moisturizing squalane, this is a gentle gel cleanser designed for blemish-prone skin. The formulation has a refreshing herbal scent and it lathers nicely to remove all traces of dirt and oil. The cleanser will cut through most makeup but I would recommend double cleansing for waterproof eye makeup and sunscreen. If you struggle with acne and oily skin, then this is a great everyday cleanser that's effective but non-drying.
Ingredients: Water, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Coco-glucoside Citrate, Squalane, Cocoyl Proline, Melaleuca Alternafolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Sodium Levulinate, Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Medicago Sativa (Alfalfa) Leaf Extract, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Gluconate, Caramel, Citric Acid, Linalool.
Biossance | Squalane + Tea Tree Detox Mask ($45 CAD for 75 ml):
With a lightweight clay base, the Squalane + Tea Tree Detox Mask is also formulated with clarifying tea tree oil and hydrating squalane. I love me a good clay mask and this one feels immediately refreshing and clarifying. The mask sets slightly but it doesn't become super dry or crackly. It definitely helps absorb excess sebum and reduce acne but the formulation isn't drying or sensitizing. This is a great mask to use on a weekly basis or when struggling with breakouts so if you have acne-prone skin, definitely give this a go!
Ingredients: Water, Montmorillonite, Illite, Squalane, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Kaolin, Sorbitan Olivate, Propanediol, Melaleuca Alternafolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Linalool.
Biossance | Squalane + Tea Tree Balancing Oil ($58 CAD for 30 ml):
This is a lightweight facial oil designed to target blemishes and reduce redness. The formulation contains tea tree, squalane, and rosemary and it's quick-absorbing. I've long been a fan of tea tree oil but I find the ingredient quite sensitizing. 100% Tea tree oil, in particular, is tricky to work with as it's easy to over-apply so I really like how Biossance balances it with nourishing squalane. The oil mixes well with serums and creams but also works well on its own for treating breakouts and providing moisturization. I rarely recommend everything in a collection but all three products here are just solid! If oiliness, blemishes, and congestion are your main concerns, this range is absolutely perfect!
Ingredients: Squalane, C13-15 Alkane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Physalis Angulata Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Limonene, Linalool.
