Recently, through browsing Sephora's new arrivals' section, I noticed a skincare brand called Volition Beauty. Upon further reading, I discovered that unlike traditional beauty companies, Volition employs an innovative crowdsourcing strategy that relies on consumers to create products that meet their needs. Each product starts with a community submission that goes through a voting process, followed by rigorous development and testing before release to market. Today, I want to share with you my review of Volition's latest product. Thought up by Volition community member Varika, who was inspired by Marilyn Monroe's secret beauty hack of rubbing a strawberry stem on her face, the Strawberry-C Brightening Serum ($60 CAD for 30 ml) promises a hydrated, radiant complexion. Housed in a frosted glass bottle paired with a convenient dropper dispenser, the Strawberry-C Serum contains cucumber water, radish root ferment, strawberry extract, sodium hyaluronate, and Kakadu plum extract. High in vitamin C and naturally acidic, the strawberry extract brightens the skin while also providing a gentle exfoliation. In addition, the Kakadu plum extract introduces even more vitamin C while sodium hyaluronate keeps the skin plump and hydrated.
The silicone-free formulation is viscous and gel-like with no discernable scent. It spreads nicely on the skin and leaves a tacky finish. However, the product layers very well under moisturizer and makeup so there's no worrying about pilling or patching.
I loathe serums that add a heavy texture to the skin so the lightweight formulation of the Strawberry-C Brightening Serum is a huge plus. I like the boost of hydration and I do wake up seeing a brighter, more radiant complexion. I've tried a number of vitamin C serums (ex. Jouviance Vitamin C Youth Boosting Night Serum, Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum, Kiehl's Vitamin C Serum) and although the Strawberry-C Brightening Serum may not have the most potent formulation, it's definitely well-formulated and superior in texture. If you are looking for a boost of radiance and hydration that's going to complement your current skincare routine, definitely give this a try!
