Shiseido is known for its iconic and efficient skin care products but its makeup range always felt a little under-appreciated, especially by the Western beauty community. So back in Fall 2018, the brand revamped its makeup collection to introduce 21 brand new products (totaling 124 shades) that boast an impactful color, a weightless finish, and a modern Japanese packaging. I've been slowly making my way through the expansive line-up so today I wanted to share with you my review and swatches of the
InnerGlow CheekPowder ($40 CAD for 8 g). To read on, click......
Packaging:
The Shiseido InnerGlow CheekPowder is housed in a matte black compact adorned with a striking red stripe. The packaging is super sleek and lightweight and the compact shuts securely with a satisfying magnetic snap. There is a small mirror inside each compact and you get 8 g of powder.
Formulation:
Available in eight shades, the InnerGlow CheekPowder has a refined, silky formulation that provides a natural, diffused glow. Shiseido describes these as blush and highlighter hybrids but some of the shades definitely only work as highlighters while others are more appropriate as blushes. "
Twilight Hour 02" is a soft coral peach with a subtle and refined pearlescent sheen. "
Floating Rose 03" is a light petal pink infused with a slightly more noticeable pearlescent shimmer. "
Ambient White 09" is a subtle champagne gold.
All three powders have a smooth and creamy texture but they all lean slightly sheer. The two blush shades, in particular, require some layering in order to make an impact but the application is even and non-patchy. "
Ambient White 09" makes for a great cheek highlighter and it also works well as an inner corner highlighter. "
Twilight Hour 02" and "
Floating Rose 03", on the other hand, not only provide a soft flush of color but also a natural, translucent glow to the cheeks. In terms of wear, these powders perform just okay. Maybe because they are quite sheer to begin with, but only a hint of color remains at the end of the day.
Overall, this is a lovely range of cheek colors intended for those looking for a more natural glow. I love the compact and sleek packaging and the soft and silky formulation applies like a dream. Personally, I would have preferred a more intense and long-lasting formulation but the pigmentation is definitely buildable. Have you tried any products from the revamped Shiseido makeup collection?
