With Jennifer Lawrence as its spokesperson, Joy by Dior Eau de Parfum ($119 CAD for 50 ml) is the first women's pillar fragrance launched by Dior in the past 20 years. Aimed at capturing the energy and exhilaration of joy, the fragrance features notes of mandarin, jasmine, and white musk. I've only recently got my hands on a bottle to try so I wanted to share with you my review today. To read on, click......
The Bottle:
With a simple cylindrical shape, the Joy by Dior bottle is adorned with raised letterings embossed in silver. The snap-on magnetic cap is molded with lines resembling metallic silver twine wrapped around the side. Finally, the lavender pink tinted liquid adds an extra touch of feminity to the already elegant bottle.
The Scent:
Opening with a fleeting but refreshing splash of bergamot and mandarin orange, Joy by Dior is a warm floral anchored by notes of jasmine and white musk. Before trying the scent, I'd seen countless promos featuring Jennifer Lawrence emerging from a swimming pool looking like she just had the best day ever. So in my mind, I was picturing a very fun and bright citrus fragrance. Therefore, it was kind of funny that when I first tried the scent, it smelled nothing like I had imagined. Joy by Dior is a heavier and warmer than I expected, with the sweet jasmine boosted by a base accord of white musk, sandalwood, and patchouli (from what I can detect).
Obviously, everyone has a different concept of joy but Joy by Dior doesn't quite evoke the feeling of joy for me. To me, this is a rich late-summer fragrance that evokes warmth and sensuality. In terms of wear, this one fares pretty well. The sillage is good and the sweet woody floral lingers long after the top notes have faded. Overall this is a lovely warm musky floral. If you are a fan of sweeter, richer florals that deviate from the typical light, fruity-floral concoction, then definitely give this a go!
Availability:
Dior is available at Dior, Sephora, Hudson's Bay, select Shoppers Drug Mart, Holt Renfrew, and Nordstrom.
