Kat Von D is well known for her Lock-It Foundation (reviewed
here) and for 2019, the Lock-It product range is expanding to include the addition of a full-coverage powder foundation. Promising a pigmented formulation that's instantly-blurring and long-wearing, the
Lock-It Powder Foundation ($44 CAD for 9 g) is available in 26 shades. I've got reviews and swatches (including some before and after shots) to share with you today. To read on, click......
Packaging:
The Lock-It Powder Foundation comes in a unique, eye-catching black square compact. The lid is adorned with a raised wax seal design embossed with the KVD logo and the inside has a stunning chrome red finish. The powder comes with a simple sponge applicator; there is no separate compartment for storage but the compact will shut tightly with the sponge placed right on top of the powder. Included is 9 g of pressed powder, which is a reasonable amount as most powder foundations range anywhere from 6 to 12 g.
Formulation:
Made with a talc and kaolin clay, the Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation has a silky, finely-milled, and
very pigmented formulation. When worn over moisturized skin prepped with a non-tinted primer, the powder provided a surprisingly high coverage that's more opaque than most liquid foundations I've tried. I love how lightweight the formulation is and despite giving impressive coverage and a soft, smoothing finish, the powder doesn't add texture or cakiness. A lot of times, powder foundations tend to cling to dry patches around my brow and eye area, emphasizing any fine lines; however, this was not a problem with the Lock-It formulation.
The only shortcoming of this powder foundation is the lackluster wear time. Because of the thinner, lighter texture, the formulation does not keep oil at bay. Within a couple of hours, my T-zone started to look shiny. The pigments also faded pretty significantly by the end of the day so if you are wearing this alone, be prepared to touch up throughout the day to maintain coverage. "
Fair 115" a very pale ivory with a slight warm undertone and "
Light 125" is neutral light ivory. See below for a before and after comparison of "Light 125" on my face.
Overall, the Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation is a winner in my book! The blurring, high-coverage formulation looks just flawless on the skin and although the wear time is not great, it's a worthy tradeoff for a lightweight, non-cakey finish.
