In addition to the much buzzed about Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealers (reviewed here), Fenty Beauty by Rihanna has also launched a line of loose setting powders that promise a "filtered, photo-ready finish". Available in 8 shades, the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder ($40 CAD for 38 g) is "superfine and light-as-air". I've got a full review of the formulation to share with you today. Packaging:
The Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder comes in a nice and sturdy clear acrylic jar paired with a reflective pale rose gold cap. The multi-faceted design is trendy and sleek but I do find the cap a bit hard to screw back on. The jar has an "FB" shaped sifter opening which dispenses an appropriate amount of powder. Also included is a reusable inner cap that secures the sifter opening so you can easily travel with the product without too much powder dispensing from the holes. You get 28 g of product, which is comparable to the market standard (ex. the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder comes with 30 g).
Formulation:
With a finely-milled formulation that's indeed very lightweight, the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder is super smoothing and blurring. It instantly mattifies and does not cling to dry patches or emphasize fine lines. The powder provides a very sheer coverage and although it delays shine, it's not the most oil-absorbing powder I've tried. However, the biggest selling point of the range is the relatively larger shade availability. I have here the lightest three shades swatched below but the line extends all the way to a deep brown called "Coffee". When "light", "medium", and "dark" are all that is offered by some companies, the eight-shade option is actually quite impressive.
"Butter" is a soft ivory with a subtle yellow undertone, it is recommended for those that use the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation in the shade range 100-190. "Banana" is a warm beige with a subtle hint of apricot, this is for those in the 200-290 shade range. Lastly, "Lavender" is a translucent white with just a hint of lavender; it is a brightening shade for those with very pale skin also in the 100-190 range. Overall, this is a solid range or loose setting powders thanks to the lightweight and non-cakey formulation. For those with medium to deep skin tones that have always struggled in finding a setting powder that doesn't make them look ashy, this line is definitely worth checking out!
