Laura Mercier | Holiday 2018 Nights Out Eyeshadow Palette ($65 CAD for 12 g):
This is a 12-shade eyeshadow palette housed in a sleek, reflective rose gold rectangular compact. The lid features a really nice matte gray embossing that uses negative space to create some festive gold speckles. Pair that with a snazzy magnetic closure, the packaging feels super luxurious. With the shadows, there's a nice mix of warm and cool shades. The left side centers around a neutral, pink-beige color scheme while the right side focuses on darker, smokey tones and traditional holiday metallics.
In terms of formulation, I found the palette to be a bit of a mixed bag. While all the shades are silky and non-chalky, a few definitely lacks pigmentation (ex. "
Plum Frost", "
Black Frost", and "
Voodoo"). I suppose they will work fine for blending or enhancing a base color but on their own, it's going to take a lot of packaging to achieve the kind of intensity most would expect based on how they appear in the pan. Overall, this is a decent palette. I definitely am drawn to the more sophisticated color selection but the formulation leaves more to be desired.
Laura Mercier | Holiday 2018 Prep-A-Powder Limited Edition Powder & Puff ($48 CAD for 39 g):
Available in two shade options, this is a value set that comes with one full-sized Translucent Loose Setting Powder (valued at $48 CAD) and a Velour Puff applicator (valued at $19 CAD). Translucent Loose Setting Powder is the number one seller from Laura Mercier and it has garnered numerous beauty awards over the years. I'm not a fan of loose powders in general (way too messy for my rushed makeup application) so I was never drawn to this product. However, for those that are already a fan, this is a nice version to purchase as the powder comes in a beautiful holiday edition packaging embossed with golden speckles. Also included is the Laura Mercier Velour Puff, which I sincerely apologize for not including in the photos. Though generously-sized and obviously well-made, the Velour Puff is bigger than the opening of the powder jar. This poses some problems as it is difficult to pick up the powder without having to scrunch up the puff and press hard. Also due to the size, the puff has to be stored separately as it won't fit into the jar.
Laura Mercier | Holiday 2018 Stardust Radiant Glow Palette ($65 CAD for 9 g):
Housed in a rectangular compact similar to that of the Nights Out Eyeshadow Palette, this is a beautiful highlighter trio featuring a silky, baked texture. Each shade contains swirls of at least two colors and all with the exception of "Bronze Mélange" applies as a uniform color. "
Rose Gold Mélange" is a beautiful soft rose gold that's much more subtle and sophisticated as compared to most other rose gold highlighters on the market. "
Champagne Mélange" is a pale cool-toned gold and "
Bronze Mélange" is a unique golden bronze swirled with large streaks of intense copper and rich plum infused with silver shimmers. The non-gritty, glitter-free formulation is packed to the brim with fine shimmers. It blends smoothly but is also buildable for a more intense sheen. All three shades are gorgeous but "Bronze Mélange" is too intense and odd to be used as a highlighter, especially for those with paler skin tones. However, I think it could actually work well as an eyeshadow so the palette is still a winner.
