For Fall 2018,
Mary Kay is keeping things simple with a small lineup of
Matte Lipsticks ($20 CAD for 3.3 g each) available in four trendy, fashion-forward shades. Promising a velvety veil of pigments, the lipsticks proved to be immensely disappointing. To read my review on why that is and see some lip swatches, click......

Mary Kay | Fall 2018 Matte Lipsticks |
Packaging:
The Mary Kay Matte Lipstick is housed in a shiny black metal case embossed with the Mary Kay logo in gunmetal silver. The packaging is relatively simple but feels sturdy and elegant.
Formulation:
I've tried several Mary Kay lipstick formulations before and have found them to be generally pretty good. However, this Matte Lipstick collection is beyond disappointing. With the exception of "Red Roma", every single shade is uneven and difficult to apply. Every time I pressed my lips together or drank from a cup, visible patches of lipstick came off, leaving behind obvious splotches where the color used to be. The formulation is fairly hydrating and comfortable on the lips but because the colors all have significant issues with pigmentation and application, Mary Kay has really have missed the mark with this one. With so many great matte lipsticks available on the market, I simply cannot recommend these. See below for a more detailed breakdown of all four shades.

Mary Kay | Fall 2018 Matte Lipsticks |
Orange Mio: This is a bright summery orange. The pigmentation is pretty buildable but the color is prone to patching and transferring.
Red Roma: The exception of the bunch, Red Roma is a beautiful true red. The pigmentation is nice is non-patchy. However, the formulation does feel a bit silicone-y, as is with the rest of the collection, so it's far from the best matte red lipstick I've tried.
Grazie, Violet: A cool-tone purple, this shade is unfortunately sheer and patchy. Even with multiple
layers I was unable to get a presentable finish.
Puro Mirtillo: Hands down the worst of the four and probably one of the worst lipsticks I've ever tried, Puro Mirtillo is a deep oxblood red. The formulation is an absolute nightmare. The color is so patchy that I literally had to go in with my fingertip to smooth things out. What you see in the swatches below is literally the best I can do.
