Inspired by the icy gaze of winter, Fenty Beauty by Rihanna has just released the Chill Owt Holiday Collection. Filled with polar metallic colors designed to create a "melt-worthy" look, the limited edition collection is available now in stores and online at Sephora. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna | Holiday 2018 Avalanche All-Over Metallic Powder Set ($125 CAD for 7 x 1 g):
Housed in individual clear acrylic jars sealed with a shiny silver lid embossed with the Fenty Beauty logo, the Avalanche All-Over Metallic Powder Set comes in a very fancy and elaborate gift box that's unfortunately way too bulky for long-term storage. You get a total of seven loose powders and each weighs 1 g. Formulated with "high-impact metallic pigments", the powders can be used for the lips, cheeks, and eyes although the color selection is geared more towards the eyes. I'm not really a fan of loose powders as I find the application quite messy and the fact that the jars don't contain a sifter opening is a big drawback. Nevertheless, all the shades are decently formulated. The finish is more satin and shimmery than metallic and there is some variation with the color intensity but overall, the seven shades are all nicely milled and easy to work with. Ice Cream: This is a pale yellow gold shimmer. The color looks a lot brighter and warmer in the jar but applied very differently on the skin. The pigmentation is good but because the color is so soft, the powder doesn't provide much impact.
Cleopatra: Another shade that swatched very differently than it appeared in the jar, Cleopatra is a pale mossy green shimmer. Similar to Ice Cream, the color is super soft and subtle.
Foxy: A rich burnt copper orange, Foxy is more satin than metallic. The formulation is super pigmented, as evident in the swatches below.
Raspberry: One of the more metallic shades of the bunch, Raspberry is a berry red that's very pigmented.
February: A soft lavender that's almost matte, February is on the sheerer side.
Glacier Gang: A bright sky blue, Glacier has only a very subtle satin sheen so the shade is definitely not metallic. The application a bit streaky, suggesting that the powder is perhaps not properly milled to evenly distribute the pigments. Additionally, this color stained quite a bit so make sure to wear a good primer or cream base.
Brain Freeze: This is a classic gunmetal silver. The formulation is silky and pigmented.
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna | Holiday 2018 Frost Hunny Metallic Eye + Lip Crayon Set ($48 CAD for 3 x 1.4 g):
Designed for use on the lips and lids, the Metallic Eye + Lip Crayon Set is available in three color combinations (Frost Bunny, Frost Hunny, and Frost Money). Housed in a sturdy cardboard case equipped with a hidden mirror under the lid, the Frost Hunny Set comes with three warm, gold-themed shades. In my opinion, the colors are more suitable for the eyes but you can still use these as lipsticks. Unlike the Avalanche All-Over Metallic Powder Set, all three shades here are true metallics. "Pretty Penny" is a burnt orange, "Ice Dunes" is a sandy taupe, and "Sunfrost" is a golden orange. The formulation is pigmented and smooth but best of all, the finish is completely transfer-proof so there is no smudging or fading.
