Inspired by Christian Dior's fascination with luck and destiny, the Dior Holiday 2018 Midnight Wish Collection celebrates all things magical and sparkling. Embossed with Mr. Dior's favorite star motif, the collection is a dazzling display of shimmer and gold. To see some swatches and read my reviews of a few key pieces, click......
Dior Holiday 2018 | Midnight Wish 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in "617 Lucky Star" ($73 CAD for 3 g):
Pressed with an intricate pattern of sequinned stars, the Midnight Wish 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette is available in two color schemes, one gold and one silver. I have here "617 Lucky Star", the gold-themed palette containing a pearlescent white shimmer, a pale gold shimmer, a warm copper gold shimmer, a medium brown with a golden sheen, and a satin dark brown. All five shades are beautifully pigmented and buttery smooth. What I love the most, however, is that the pale gold and the copper gold not only contain golden shimmers, but they are also scattered with pale silvery white sparkles, giving the shadows a unique speckled look (hard to capture in photographs but definitely noticeable in person). If you love classic festive gold shadows or are just looking to collect a beautifully-designed palette, then this is a must-have!
Dior Holiday 2018 | Midnight Wish Rouge Blush ($55 CAD for 4 g):
Embossed with a starry pattern similar to that of the 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette, the Midnight Wish Rouge Blush is a gorgeous champagne gold that's definitely more suitable as a highlighter. With a fine and silky formulation, the powder is pigmented and buildable. When lightly dusted on the cheeks, it gives a subtle, gorgeous sheen but the color is intense enough to be used as an eyeshadow as well. Similar to the Chanel Holiday 2018 Lion de Chanel Illuminating Powder (reviewed here), the Midnight Wish Rouge Blush may be a bit too festive for everyday use on paler skins, but it's very natural for those with a warm medium skin tone.
Dior | Holiday 2018 Diorific Mat Lipstick ($46 CAD for 3.5 g):
Every year Dior releases a few limited edition shades of the beloved Diorific Lipsticks and I have here "550 Desirable" and "620 Stunning". Both are supposedly matte but they have a natural satin sheen. "550 Desirable" is a bright holly red; it's creamy and smooth but surprisingly sheerer than expected. The color applies slightly patchy but eventually builds to an even finish with just a hint of translucency. "620 Stunning" is a soft brown nude. This shade looks quite dull and unflattering in the tube but because the formulation is also a bit sheer, it works well with my natural lip color to provide a soft brown nude. Neither shades are transfer-proof so regular touch-ups will be needed throughout the day.
Dior | Holiday 2018 Diorific Vernis ($34 CAD for 12 ml):
In addition to the Diorific Mat Lipsticks, four shades of Diorific Vernis are also available this year. "220 Promesse" is a pale champagne gold shimmer. The color is very lovely up-close but I've noticed that it makes my nails look unappealingly yellow when admired from afar. It is a sheerer polish but two shades provide a nice and even finish. "360 Lively" is a soft pink shimmer. This shade is surprisingly rich and pigmented; two coats provide a smooth, opaque finish.
