Mugler is always creating new interpretations of its iconic fragrances and for 2018, the Alien family is receiving a new member called Alien Flora Futura ($94 CAD for 60 ml). Featuring a "symbiosis" between the citrus freshness of the Buddha's hand fruit and the alluring sweetness of the Queen of the Night vanilla cactus, the scent is described as a bright, feminine floral. The Bottle:
Similar to the original Alien bottle shaped like a multi-faceted talisman, Alien Flora Futura ditches the iconic purple veil and dons a much fresher, lighter pink. There is no removable cap as the perfume dispenses directly by pressing the button at the top of the bottle. However, the setup can be disassembled for refill at select Mugler counters.
The Scent:
Opening with a quick whiff of light citrus derived from the Buddha's hand fruit, Alien Flora Futura is what I would describe as the younger sister of the original Alien fragrance (reviewed here). With a very creamy and sweet floral core thanks to the rare vanilla cactus flower that blooms only for one night, Alien Flora Future is just as alluring and feminine as the original Alien, but a touch lighter and fresher. I wish the cloverleaf was more prominent and the Buddha's hand a little less fleeting but if you enjoyed the original Alien and found it too rich and intense for daytime wear, then Flora Futura is the perfect alternative. All in all, this new take on Alien still embodies the same DNA as the original, only with a lighter, younger touch.
