As compared to other mid-range makeup brands like Too Faced or Urban Decay, Stila doesn't put out nearly as many new collections each season. However, the brand always creates something unique and innovative so today I wanted to share with you a handful of new releases for Spring and Summer 2018. Stila | Heaven's Hue Highlighter in "Magnificence" ($42 CAD for 10 g):
With four new shades for Summer 2018, the Heaven's Hue Highlighter has a lightweight cream-to-powder texture that's bouncy and slick to the touch. "Magnificence" is a rosy bronze shimmer that's sheer but buildable. The formulation has only very fine pigments and sparkles so the effect is sophisticated and flattering. The color is definitely more of a shimmery bronzer than a highlighter, a little too dark for me personally but suitable for those with medium to dark skin tones. Once blended, the highlighter sets to a powder finish and remains fairly smudge-proof.
Stila | Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in "Freedom" ($31 CAD for 4.5 ml):
As a part of the Spring 2018 Bohemian Beauty Collection, "Freedom" is a pretty pale blue liquid eyeshadow. With no glitters and only fine shimmers, the formulation is sheer but buildable. The shadow is easy to blend and dries down to a mostly smudge-proof finish. I find the color a little hard to pull off as it's such a pale baby blue. To me, it screams early 2000s or pop idol Barbie but if blue is your thing, then do check this out!
Stila | Limited Edition Glitter & Glow Liquid Highlighter in "Monarch" ($39 CAD for 6 ml):
Inspired by the liquid eyeshadow range, the limited edition Glitter & Glow Liquid Highlighter is available in five dazzling shades. "Monarch" is a soft lavender packed full of iridescent glitters that shift between blue, pink, and pale gold. The formulation has a clear base so the highlighter is very sparkly. It blends evenly but the texture is gritty and prone to transferring. Also, due to the nature of the iridescent particles, the highlighter looks transparent at certain angles, adding only a bumpy texture without providing any color or shine. I personally wouldn't use this on my face unless it's for a very special occasion but the chunkier texture is appropriate for the decolletage area. Additionally, the product can be used as a glitter topper for the eyes. In conclusion, this highlighter is not for everywhere but if you are attending a music festival or planning ahead for a mermaid or fairy Halloween costume, it's worth checking out.
Stila | Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in "Lume Shimmer" ($29 CAD for 3 ml):
Stila previewed a couple of its new Shimmer Liquid Lipsticks for Holiday 2017 (see Beso Shimmer here) and for Spring 2018, all six new, full-sized shades are unveiled. I have here "Lume Shimmer", a gorgeous shimmery fuchsia with a subtle lavender sheen. The formulation is sheerer than expected and I actually needed two coats for a mostly even and opaque coverage. However, because the Stay All Day formulation builds so well, this wasn't much of an issue. After drying down, the lipstick has a shimmery but matte finish. It's transfer-proof but will fade with heavy eating and drinking. I think "Beso Shimmer" is still my favorite but this one is perfect for the summer time!
