The La Prairie Skin Caviar Essence-In-Foundation comes in a fairly large and chunky plastic compact made with a translucent blue base and a reflective, silver lid. The set includes an extra refill so you are in fact getting 30 ml of foundation in total (2 x 15 ml each). Unlike traditional cushion foundations, the Skin Caviar Essence-In-Foundation comes in a special delivery system. Instead of a foundation-soaked sponge, the compact is equipped with an innovative pump dispenser covered in a mesh netting. To apply, simply use the included sponge cushion applicator and press down on the center of the mesh to dispense the foundation. Three to four pumps is enough for a medium coverage. Also included are an extra applicator and a storage pouch hidden underneath the cardboard insert inside the box.

Formulation:
Available in eight shades, the Skin Caviar Essence-In-Foundation is formulated with distilled caviar water known for its firming and refining properties. Also infused with extracts of mushroom, ginseng, horsetail, yeast ferment, and vitamin E, the foundation provides an SPF of 25. With a medium coverage that's buildable to full, the Essence-In-Foundation has a lightweight texture that's incredibly silky and hydrating. The slightly dewy finish is fairly smooth so pores are minimized and there's no creasing or settling.

I have here the shade "
NC 10 Porcelaine Blush" which is a light ivory with a neutral undertone. The color looks a little dark when first pumped into the mesh netting but it in fact is a perfect match for my NC15 skin tone. As you can see in the face swatches below, the foundation does a good job at covering redness and most blemishes. I was impressed with how it sat on the skin but the finish was just a tad dewy for my preference as I have oily, combination skin.

In terms of wear, the foundation fares just okay. Given that it has an SPF of 25, I'm happy that it didn't get super greasy and shiny on me. There was no dreaded creasing around the corner of my nose but the pigments faded significantly on the tip of my nose and this was after setting with a powder. The foundation will work fine with dry to normal skin but for oily skin, it's definitely not suitable for the summer months. Overall, this is a very luxurious and silky medium coverage foundation with the added bonus of sun protection. The packaging is one-of-a-kind and extremely innovative. I like the smoothing, natural finish but the wear time left something to be desired on my oily skin. I would not recommend it for those with oily or combination skin but the if you have dry to normal skin, the light, hydrating texture will sure be a treat!
