Fermented ingredients are becoming increasingly popular in skincare (see Tatcha's
The Essence and the
Black Tea Kombucha Essence from Fresh) and
It Cosmetics is joining the trend with two new skincare products boasting a proprietary seven-ingredient ferment complex designed to hydrate, plump, and renew. I've got reviews of the
Miracle Water 3-in-1 Tonic ($48 CAD) and
Secret Sauce Moisturizer ($88 CAD) to share with you today. To read on, click......

It Cosmetics | Miracle Water 3-in-1 Tonic ($48 CAD for 250 ml):
Formulated with the Secret Sauce Ferment Complex, a precious combination of fermented rice, green tea, sugarcane, pumpkin, and kelp designed to boost radiance and reduce the look of lines, the Miracle Water 3-in-1 Tonic has a lightweight, liquid consistency that spreads easily and absorbs efficiently. The tonic comes in a simple plastic bottle paired with a small spout opening. Because the bottle is quite stiff and non-squeezable, you actually have to shake out the tonic drop by drop, which is not my favorite method of delivery as it can get messy and wasteful. A softer, squeezable bottle or a pump dispenser would have made things a lot more convenient.
In addition to the special ferment complex, the Miracle Water contains extracts of elm root, tassel flower, coconut, radish root, licorice root, rose, hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin C, and a whole slew of skin-loving ingredients as evident by the humongous list below. The tonic contains no drying alcohol and it feels gentle on the skin. It Cosmetics recommends using this as a toner, essence, or micellar cleanser (hence the 3-in-1 name). However, the formulation feels a little too dilute to be an essence but also a little too precious and pricy for removing makeup. Nevertheless, it certainly makes an excellent hydrating toner if you are looking for a mild, non-stinging formulation that leaves behind no greasy or sticky residue.

It Cosmetics | Secret Sauce Anti-Aging Moisturizer ($88 CAD for 60 ml):
Also formulated with the Secret Sauce Ferment Complex, the Secret Sauce Anti-Aging Moisturizer is a day and night face cream designed to combat dryness, uneven textures, wrinkles, and fine lines. With a lightweight, silky texture, the cream also contains collagen, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and licorice root designed to reduce discoloration and boost radiance. The cream is not too heavy on the silicones so it feels comfortable on the skin but I personally find the formulation a bit too greasy for daytime wear. For the night time, however, the cream is nourishing and hydrating, leaving my skin perfectly conditioned in the morning. I've not noticed any dramatic brightening or smoothing effect but this is a perfectly adequate moisturizer for those with dry and normal skin. Lastly, it's worth noting that neither the Secret Sauce nor the Miracle Water has a very strong scent although the moisturizer lists "fragrance" as an ingredient.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the number of quality ingredients found in both products. However, while perfectly sufficient, neither wowed me in terms of their performance. The Miracle Water is a mild, everyday toner while the Secret Sauce is a nourishing face cream that's slightly too heavy for daytime use. Have you tried any skincare products from It Cosmetics?
