New from Revlon comes a line of nourishing lip colors called the Kiss Plumping Lip Creme ($13.99 CAD). Formulated with the plumping Volulip™ complex, the range is available in ten trendy nudes. To see some swatches and read my review, click......
Packaging:
The Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Creme comes in a plastic squeeze tube paired with a slant tip applicator. I'm generally not a fan of lip colors housed in a squeeze tube but the Kiss Plumping Lip Creme packaging is especially difficult to work with. Instead of a nice flocked finish (similar to that of Too Faced's Melted Liquified Lipsticks), the applicators have a hard plastic tip that does absolutely nothing in helping the product spread. In the end, pressing my lips together did a better job at evening out the color.
Formulation:
Made with a petroleum jelly base, the Kiss Plumping Lip Creme is a semi-sheer lip gloss that also contains beeswax, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid. Although slightly viscous when first dispensed, the Kiss Plumping Lip Creme immediately melts upon contact with the lips, providing a shiny, nourishing finish that's lightweight and not at all sticky. Formulated with menthol, the gloss feels lightly tingly but not stingy. However, what really does the "plumping" effect is the Volulip™ complex, which consists of a combination of portulaca pilosa extract and Matrixyl Synthe’6. These ingredients are believed to stimulate hyaluronic and collagen synthesis, thereby creating a more voluminous lip contour.
To be honest, I'm not sure I notice a big difference. Of course my lips look plumper after application but just about any other lip gloss provides the same effect. With that said, I do like the soft and hydrating formulation. I can do without the tingling sensation but the smooth, non-tacky finish is very pleasant. I have a detailed shade breakdown below but in general, these glosses are pretty sheer, with the exception of "515 Almond Suede", "530 Peony Buff", "535 Spiced Berry", and "540 Velvet Mink", which are comparatively more pigmented. I only did four lip swatches for these shades given that they are on the sheerer side and quite a few of them are very similar to each other.
500 Cashmere Creme: This is a milky peachy beige. The formulation is very sheer so the finish is a bit crease-prone. I have a lip swatch below for reference.
505 Apricot Silk: A pale milky coral, this shade is sheer but even.
510 Nude Honey: This is a peachy beige that's essentially a deeper version of Cashmere Creme.
515 Almond Suede: A gorgeous pinky caramel, Almond Suede is definitely more pigmented in comparison to the previous shades. See below for a lip swatch.
520 Fresh Petal: A soft baby pink, Fresh Petal is sheer and slightly crease-prone.
525 Barely Blush: A neutral rosy brown, this shade is sheer but even.
530 Peony Buff: This is a pretty rosy pink. The formulation is surprisingly pigmented and the consistency feels a bit thicker in comparison as well.
535 Spiced Berry: My personal favorite, Spiced Berry is a semi-sheer warm marsala berry. Although the pigmentation is not as intense as Peony Buff, the finish is even and smooth. See below for a lip swatch.
540 Velvet Mink: This is a dusty mauve. The formulation is semi-sheer but very even.
545 Rich Bordeaux: A deep brownish wine red, this shade surprisingly sheer and patchy. Therefore, it's probably best worn over a base lip color.
Overall, these are some really nice and moisturizing balmy lip glosses. The slick, non-sticky finish is super nourishing and even when the color wears off, my lips are left feeling soft and plush. With that said, the packaging is a huge miss and for those that don't like a tingling sensation from their lip colors, the menthol may be a dealbreaker. Have you spotted these in stores recently?
