I try out a lot of MAC makeup for the blog but haven't really delved into the brand's skincare repertoire. However, the new Mineralize Total Detox Collection really caught my eyes as I'm always looking for deep cleansing products for my oily, acne-prone skin. Infused with charcoal powder, this collection is designed to purify and cleanse while hydrating and conditioning. MAC | Mineralize Charged Water Charcoal Spray ($29 CAD):
Housed in a convenient spray bottle, this is a multi-use, charcoal-infused facial spray that can be used after cleansing, after makeup, and throughout the day to refresh and hydrate the skin. Although made with charcoal, the mist is completely transparent and fragrance-free. The water-based, alcohol-free formulation also contains caffeine and various minerals (ex. calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium), which are intended to re-energize the skin for a natural, glowy complexion. The spray nozzle dispenses a fairly fine mist so the product can be used to set makeup. The formulation feels quite tingly on the skin but it can be a little sensitizing when applied too liberally. In fact, I like to apply this with a cotton pad to ensure a more even distribution. Overall, this is a pretty simple facial spray. It feels very refreshing but I don't think it's a vital part of my skincare routine.
MAC | Mineralize Reset & Revive Charcoal Mask ($35 CAD):
Infused with charcoal, sodium hyaluronate, and extracts of Japanese knotweed, yeast, and algae, the Reset & Revive Charcoal Mask is a deep-cleansing clay mask. The creamy formulation appears dark gray thanks to the charcoal powder and it spreads very easily over cleansed skin. Within five or so minutes, the mask starts drying down and it washes off easily with warm water and a damp facecloth. The mask leaves the skin feeling super smooth and clean. Because of charcoal's ability to absorb and trap impurities, the mask is really good at removing excess sebum and debris collected in the pores. Overall, this is an affordable, effective, and easy-to-remove charcoal mask perfect for oily and acne-prone skin.
