Tarte's ever-expanding Rainforest of the Sea Collection has a new member and it's a special one! Offering a range of sparkly, high-shine metallics, the
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette ($52 CAD) is formulated with smoothing algae and marine flower extract for a plush and creamy texture. To get a peek inside the palette and read my review of the formulation, click......
Packaging:
The Rainforest of the Sea Foil Finger Paints Palette comes in a shiny gold hard plastic compact. The most eye-catching part is the fully decked out lid. Encrusted with tiny microbeads, multifaceted gems, and small turquoise stones, the palette almost looks like a fancy designer clutch. I was initially worried about fallouts from the lid but so far, I've only had one microbead come loose so it seems like things are pretty well secured.
Formulation:
Offering three metallics (1.7g each) and a glitter split-pan (0.5g each), this palette is designed to create an intense, high-shine foil finish. The three metallics are incredibly pigmented, and unlike any other shadows I've tried, they have this slick, buttery texture that's not quite cream and not quite powder. When applied with the fingertips, the colors are completely opaque. I find them a little hard to blend given how intense they are so I actually opted to use a brush for blending. I did notice some creasing after a few hours of wear but the overall performance is good. "
Gold Coast" is a sparkly champagne gold. "
Sailor's Delight" is a satin metallic maroon. "
Sea Glass" is a sparkly cool-tone brown.
Now on to the glittery split pan. Suspended in a clear base, "
Stargazer" is a glitter topper duo. You get an iridescent clear glitter and a sparkly silver glitter. These are surprisingly gritty despite the glitters being fairly small in size. I can see the iridescent one working well topped over any finished look but give that the silver one is dense and opaque, it's probably only going to work over a similarly colored base. Even when completely set, the base doesn't provide enough binding so the glitters are prone to smudging and transferring.
Below is a look I created using all three of the metallic shadows. I actually blended them quite a bit so the colors are more natural but you can achieve a super intense look if you wanted to. As you can see, "Gold Coast" and "Sea Glass" both have a very sparkly finish. Overall, this is a pretty palette with a unique formulation. I personally would have preferred a couple more metallic shades in place of the two glitters so hopefully, Tarte will release a bigger palette featuring more shades in the future.
