Since its initial release back in 2005, the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate ($79 CAD for 50ml) is one of Kiehl's all-time bestsellers. For this spring, the iconic formulation is getting a little makeover with an even higher vitamin C concentration and an added dose of hyaluronic acid. Housed in a simple plastic bottle paired with a convenient pump dispenser, the Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate is a day and night serum containing 12.5% of vitamin C (10.5% L-ascorbic acid and 2% ascorbyl glucoside) and a bonus dose of hyaluronic acid for hydration. Suspended in a base of propylene glycol, glycerin, and silicones, the serum has a milky yellow color with a subtle citrus scent. Compared to your typical serum, the formulation is rather creamy and viscous. Upon close examination, the serum appears to be suspended with miniscule white droplets (presumably of Vitamin C). The product warms up slightly when applied onto the skin and it quickly melts to a smooth matte finish. I usually loathe any silicon-containing skincare as they tend to feel icky and heavy on the skin but with this serum, I didn't experience too much pilling or cakiness.
The formulation is designed to diminish the appearance of lines, protect against free-radicals, and boost the overall radiance of the skin. I don't have many noticeable lines yet so I can't speak to how anti-aging the serum is. However, I've definitely noticed my face looking smoother and more glowy with use. Vitamin C is a key player in collagen synthesis so I have no doubt that the serum helps to achieve a healthier, plumper complexion. Overall, this is an awesome radiance-boosting serum with a unique formulation. It's smoothing and hydrating and perfect for anyone looking to add some vitamin C to their skincare.
