With so many of its products making their way onto my Best of 2017 list, Farmacy is arguably one of my favorite skincare brands in the recent years so I'm pretty determined to work my way through the brand's entire product range. Today, I want to share with you my reviews of the brand's bestselling Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm and the Honey Savior Skin Repair Salve. Farmacy | Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm ($63 CAD):
Housed in a 50ml frosted glass jar, the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm is described as a night time moisturizer that transforms from a solid balm into an oil-gel texture, preserving the skin's natural moisture while adding firmness and elasticity. The formulation contains a plethora of oils (sweet almond, sunflower, meadowfoam, evening primrose, rice bran, jojoba, grape, etc) and the texture is quite rich and salve-like even when warmed up between the palms. There is a high concentration of the Farmacy-patented Echinacea GreenEnvy compound, which is rich in antioxidants that promote a more elastic and even skin tone.
The balm has a subtle herbal fragrance and it spreads very smoothly on the skin. Unfortunately, I didn't like how it performed. The formulation is really greasy and "wet". The balm doesn't seem to absorb at all, leaving behind a noticeable film of oil on my skin, getting all over my pillowcase at night. Perhaps with very dry skin, Sleep Tight may be nourishing and calming. However, on my oily/combination skin, it just felt very heavy and slick. It does seem to keep things hydrated and softened but it's not the type of regular night moisturizer that I prefer.
Farmacy | Honey Savior All-In-One Skin Repair Salve ($44 CAD):
A multi-purpose skin salve designed to hydrate dry, cracked skin, Honey Savior is packaged in a squeezable aluminum tube similar to that of L'Occitane hand creams. Formulated with honey (high in antioxidants), royal jelly (rich in nourishing amino acids), and propolis (a natural antiseptic), the salve is quite similar in texture as the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm. It is viscous and balm-like when first squeezed out of the tube but becomes more thin and gel-like when warmed up on the skin. The formulation is indeed very nourishing and soothing but like the Sleep Tight balm, it doesn't really absorb and instead sits atop the skin, rubbing off easily whenever it comes into contact with any other surface. Therefore, I think this is a good hand salve to use before bed or when you are just staying home. If you are out and about and use this, things might get a bit messy. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the product doesn't have much of a scent. I read some reviews online complaining about the smell but I honestly don't detect anything offensive.
Overall, neither of these were hits for me. I am all for deeply rich and nourishing products but I hate it when something doesn't absorb and simply sits atop my skin. With that said, if you suffer from very dry skin, these two products may just be your best friends so do check them out in stores and decide for yourself.
