What's your favorite eyeshadow finish? Shimmers, satins, mattes, or metallics? If you answered metallics, then you are in luck because
Urban Decay has created a stunning new palette featuring 20 metallic shadows. Inspired by modern art, the limited edition
Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette ($72 CAD, on sale now for only $36) is going to blow your mind! Intrigued? Read on for my review and swatches......
Packaging:
The Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette comes in the form of a unique slide-out gunmetal tray. Included are 20 shadows each weighing at 0.8g and you also get a decently-sized mirror embedded in the center of the tray. Everything is housed in a sleek, reflective case. The purple chrome finish has a stunning three-dimensional ripple design. Every element of this palette looks and feels so cool and futuristic. If you are a palette collector, the packaging alone makes this one a winner!
Formulation:
As its name suggests, the Heavy Metals palette features 20 metallic shades. The shadows are divided into two sections so you get the neutrals and the bolds. Urban Decay shadows have always been super amazing and this palette is no different. Every single shade is rich, creamy, and highly pigmented. What I love the most, however, is that all of these shadows are true metallics. The line between shimmery and metallic finishes can be a bit blurred at times but there is no doubt that these Heavy Metals shades are gorgeous, high-sheen metallics.
With that said, I do want to note that the shade "Amp" (bright metallic teal) leaves a blue stain and "Dive" (medium metallic blue) is slightly sheer in comparison to the rest of the palette. Additionally, this isn't one of those palettes that will provide you with all the shadows you need to create a complete look. Because most people prefer to use mattes or satins for blending and highlighting, it will be a bit tricky to create a full look using just the colors in this palette. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this to makeup novices that are looking for simple, no-brainer palette that includes all the colors needed to create a full look.
Below is a look I created using the Heavy Metals palette. As you can see, I played it safe and stuck with the colors on the neutral side. Overall, this is a fantastic palette both in terms of packaging and formulation. However, because it contains only metallic colors, it's best used in tandem with other eyeshadow finishes.
