Just in time for the holiday season and New Year's Eve, Too Faced has released an innovative eyeliner collection called the Glitter POP! Peel-Off Eyeliner ($24 CAD). Available in eight fun shades, these glitter-packed liners can be worn on their own or layered on top of your regular liner. What's more is that at the end of the day, the formulation can be peel-off for a simple removal. Curious? Read my review and see some swatches to learn more......
Packaging:
The Too Faced Glitter POP! Peel-Off Eyeliner comes in a nice and sturdy clear tube paired with a sleek black cap. The applicator is a fine-tipped bristle brush. It's good for drawing very precise lines but it doesn't pick up a whole lot of product. Therefore, you have to dip it back into the tube many times to get enough for a full application.
Formulation:
Suspended in a clear or translucent base, the Glitter POP! Peel-Off Eyeliners are buildable liquid eyeliners packed with small glitter and shimmer flecks. The glitter particles are pretty chunky and although there are lots of them in the tube, the eyeliners are quite sheer. To achieve an opaque coverage like the swatches below, I had to layer at least three coats to obtain an even line. This is a time-consuming process as each layer requires several minutes to fully dry. If a fresh layer is applied while the previous layer is still wet, there will be noticeable smudging and patching.
As their name suggests, the Glitter POP! liners can be peeled off for an easy removal. The formulation actually reminds me of school glue. After it's completely dry, it stiffens and shrivels ever so slightly. Unfortunately, even before I purposefully try to peel off the liner, it lifts away in the corners and starts peeling off on its own (see the inner corner of my eye swatches below). A thinner application will decrease the likelihood of this happening but as I've mentioned above, because the glitters apply so sparsely, you really need several thick layers to obtain a decent line. Alternatively, the liners can be applied over a regular liquid or pencil liner. With this method, you don't need as much product so there's no long drying time and you won't experience any premature peeling.
Hey Mr. DJ: Suspended in a translucent black base, Hey Mr. DJ is made of gold and copper glitters.
Yes Way Rosé: A comparatively more "pigmented" shade, Yes Way Rosé is of pink and magenta glitters and a combination of gold and pink iridescent shimmers.
Lucky Bitch: Made of mini gold glitters and subtle iridescent gold shimmers, Lucky Bitch is a very festive shade.
Super Fun Night: This is a simple silver liner made of small silver glitters with a sprinkling of iridescent silver shimmers.
Kitty Glitter: My personal favorite out of the eight, Kitty Glitter is made with a bold combination of hot pink and iridescent glitters.
I'm Half Mermaid: Suspended within a translucent blue base, this shade is packed with translucent glitters and shimmers. The formulation leaves behind a blue stain so it's best when applied on top of another liner.
Fairy Queen: This is a pretty lavender and purple glitter combo sprinkled with a dash of micro shimmers that have a pink/green shift.
Glitter Ghost: Made with a clear base, Glitter Ghost is packed with iridescent glitters that shifts between pink/lavender and green/blue.
Overall, this is a pretty interesting collection. Although the glitter colors are fun and eye-catching, they aren't really designed to be worn on their own. Because the liners are rather sheer, several coats are needed to obtain an opaque coverage which results in a long drying time and a heavy, stiff finish. Additionally, a thicker application will peel off all on its own after a while. With that said, if you are only looking for a glitter topper for your regular liner or just want to draw some subtle glitter accents to complete your eye makeup, then these may be worth looking into.
