Last year, Estee Lauder and Victoria Beckham teamed up to create an exclusive, luxury makeup collection (reviewed here) and it sold like hot cakes. So the two are collaborating once again this year to release a limited edition range of Fall and Winter pieces. Today I have a few products from the collection to share with you. Victoria Beckham Estee Lauder Eye Palette ($98 CAD):
Packaged in a luxurious faux-leather covered gold compact, the Eye Palette contains four pressed shadows each weighing at 2g. You get a sheer white shimmer (Blanc), a matte soft gray (Gris), a soft matte black (Noir), and a plummy brown satin (Bordeaux). Interestingly, although all four shades are super creamy and soft to the touch, the formulation is rather sheer. Gris barely shows up and when I used a fluffy blending brush to lightly dig up more product from the pan, visible chunks fell out. Bordeaux, on the other hand, looks super gorgeous and multi-dimensional in the pan but when worn on the lids, it appears dull and bland.
Additionally, I find the combination of the four shades to be quite strange. Bordeaux, especially, just doesn't fit with the rest. I tried to create a full look using all the shades but just couldn't come up with anything half-decent. Blanc is way too sheer and sparkly to be used as a browbone highlight and neither Gris nor Bordeaux quite works as an all-over the lid color with Noir in the crease. Overall, I am disappointed with this one. The combination of the sheer formulation and the strange color selection is a big let-down, especially considerating how gorgeous the packaging is.
Victoria Beckham Estee Lauder Eye Metals in "01 Bitter Clove" ($58 CAD):
Housed in a small gold compact wrapped with a layer of black faux-leather, the Eye Metals in "01 Bitter Clove" is a sheer khaki brown pressed eyeshadow. Like the Eye Palette above, the formulation of the Eye Metals feels very creamy and silky but the pigmentation is disappointing. There are a lot of shimmer particles but not enough base pigment to help the sparkles stand out. Overall, it doesn't look great on its own. You can probably pair it with a similar shade but for a $58 single shadow, I expected a bit more.
Victoria Beckham Estee Lauder Cheek Creme in "01 Blond Mink" ($78 CAD:
Housed in a small gold and leather compact identical to that of the Eye Metals shadow, this is a lightweight cream blush with a matte, non-shimmery finish. In the pan and when swatched on the arm, the color looks rather odd, a little too orange and a little too dull. However, "01 Blond Mink" wore surprisingly well on the cheeks. It gave a very healthy and sophisticated glow. The pigmentation is just right and the formulation blends seamlessly to a natural matte finish. The color wears all day with minimal fading so all in all, this is definitely a favorite of mine out of this collection.
Victoria Beckham Estee Lauder Skin Perfecting Powder ($110 CAD for 8.5g):
Housed in a hefty, luxurious gold square compact with a textured metallic finish, the Skin Perfecting Powder is a translucent finishing powder with a very lightweight formulation. Although it appears white in the pan, the powder has no pigmentation. It feels a little hard and chalky to the touch but it applies evenly with a brush. This is a very sheer and subtle setting powder. It gently blurs without caking but for those that prefer a softer, more mattifying texture, the powder may be a bit too light. With that said, if you have dry skin or a lot of fine lines, the sheer finish is less likely to emphasize wrinkles or dry patches.
