A self-proclaimed "abnormal beauty company" based in Toronto, Canada, DECIEM has been steadily making a name for itself in the beauty industry. Operating as an umbrella company with many sub-brands, DECIEM is probably best known for The Ordinary range, which offers a wide variety of skincare staples at an honorable price point (seriously, almost everything is under $10 CAD)! Today, I want to share with you my reviews of three bestsellers from the range. To read on, click......
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 ($6.80 CAD for 30ml):
Housed in a frosted glass bottle equipped with a convenient dropper dispenser, this is a water-based, alcohol-free, oil-free liquid hydrator formulated with four different types of hyaluronic acid. Paired with vitamin B5 (aka panthenol, another natural moisturizer), hyaluronic acid has the ability to attract 1000 times its weight in water. The viscous, serum-like formulation spreads beautifully and absorbs quickly and because it's silicone-free, there are no icky pilling or heavy residues. To use, simply apply a few drops to the face after cleansing and toning and follow with your regular face cream or oil. Since incorporating the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 into my skincare routine, I've been noticing a plumper, healthier complexion. So whether or not you suffer from dry skin, this stuff is a great add-on to your regular routine because who doesn't want some extra hydration?
The Ordinary "Buffet" Multi-Technology Peptide Serum ($14.80 CAD for 30ml):
Made with a "buffet" of peptides, probiotics, and hyaluronic acids designed to reduce the visible signs of aging, "Buffet" has a viscous, water-based liquid formulation that's also alcohol-free and silicone-free. The serum is packaged in a glass bottle identical to that of the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and it also applies beautifully. Quite honestly, since I don't have a lot of wrinkles or fine lines, I've not noticed a huge difference in result between this and the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. However, I do believe that the peptide complexes are at work so I would recommend this for those that want some extra hydration with a side of anti-aging action.
The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Oil ($9.90 for 30ml):
Cold-pressed to preserve its skin-nourishing properties, rose hip seed is a rich source of linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid), linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid), and pro-vitamin A. The oil has a rich yellow tint and a natural earthy fragrance. It's perfect for use at night following the application of a water-based product (ex. the "Buffet" serum) but I actually add a few drops directly into either the "Buffet" or the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. Together, they create a lovely emulsion which I use it in lieu of a regular night cream. This method helps cut down my skincare routine and the oil just spreads much better on the face. If you have very dry skin, a few drops can even be added to your regular night cream for some extra hydration.
I'm seriously impressed with all three of these items from The Ordinary. The price point is unbelievable and the formulation hits all my requirements (ex. alcohol-free, silicone free)! I'll definitely be exploring more of the range, in addition to the other DECIEM umbrella brands!
