Chanel Fall 2017 Travel Diary Collection: Review and Swatches
Although it's only August, lots of fall makeup collections are already hitting the shelves as we speak. So today I want to share with you the new Chanel Fall 2017 Travel Diary Collection. Inspired by Chanel's Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica's California road trip, the collection draws upon various elements of The Golden State. From the glimmering city lights to the stunning coastline, the collection offers a wide array of unconventional fall colors. To read my reviews and see some swatches, click......
Chanel Palette Essentielle "160 Beige Medium": Review and Swatches

Chanel Palette Essentielle in "160 Beige Medium" ($85 CAD):
The centerpiece of the whole collection, the new Chanel Palette Essentielle is a three-in-one cream palette available in three different shade combinations. Included are a cream concealer, a cream blush, and a cream highlighter. I have here the medium shade combination, "160 Beige Medium", which holds a medium beige concealer (approximately the equivalent of NC30), a wine red blush, and a pearly champagne highlighter.

The concealer is pretty high coverage and it sets to a natural matte finish while both the blush and the highlighter remain pretty dewy on the skin. The blush looks very intimating in the pan but a little dab can be blended nicely to create a natural flush. The highlighter is overly creamy in my opinion as it's prone to sliding and transferring off of the skin. Overall, this is definitely a very convenient palette. The shade range may be a bit constrictive as only three options are available but if you are a fan of cream products, I think you would enjoy this one!

Chanel Signature de Chanel Intense Longwear Eyeliner Pen in "10 Noir" ($45 CAD):
I've never tried a liquid eyeliner from Chanel before so I was really excited to test out the Signature de Chanel Intense Longwear Eyeliner Pen. Equipped with a fine-tipped brush applicator, the liner is very pigmented! However, the formulation does feel just a touch too dry. The ink sets very quickly and although it builds with no caking, it makes it hard to perfect a winged look without having to press too hard and draw on too thick of a line. Additionally, the formulation is not waterproof so there will be some minor smudging. Overall I really like the brush tip applicator and the high-intensity pigmentation. However, the overly quick-drying and non-waterproof formulation is a dealbreaker for me. Check out my eye makeup look below to see the liner in action.

Signature de Chanel Eyeliner Pen | Rouge Allure Ink "158 Highway" | Rouge Allure Velvet "63 Nightfall"
Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Color in "158 Highway" ($43 CAD):
Released last fall, the Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Color (reviewed here) from Chanel is a demi-matte liquid lipstick promising a non-drying and long-wearing formulation. For fall, two new shades are added to the range and I have here "158 Highway". This is a soft pale peach that's not what I would consider a traditional fall color. The formulation is slightly sheer but it wore better than I expected. There are some minor settling and patchiness but the overall coverage is pretty smooth unless you examine things up-close. With that said, the formulation is not transfer-proof and this shade, in particular, fades dramatically with only light eating and drinking.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick in "63 Nightfall" ($43 CAD):
No fall collection is complete without a vampy red lipstick and the Rouge Allure Velvet in "63 Nightfall" is a gorgeous deep wine red. The color is pretty neutral but under certain lighting, it leans a touch brown. The formulation is velvety and pigmented; there is a bit of patchiness but with a heavier application the problem is not noticeable. Finally, the lipstick has a natural satin finish and the wear is very good.

Chanel Ombre Premiere Creme Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in "820 Memory" ($40 CAD):
With a bouncy souffle texture, the Ombre Premiere Creme in "820 Memory" is a beautiful rusty bronze eyeshadow. The formulation is weirdly creamy and solid and the same time while the pigmentation is very intense and saturated. The color has a beautiful golden sheen as well, adding even more dimension to the already metallic finish. The color blends really nicely across the lid and I think this one of those shadows that can be easily worn on its own for a simple, monochromatic effect.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Palette in "288 Road Movie" ($68 CAD):
There are a couple of new Les 4 Ombres eyeshadows palettes in this collection and I have here "288 Road Movie". This quad includes a sparkly dark teal, a shimmery light brown, a matte deep teal, and a matte khaki nude. Formulation-wise, the palette is a bit disappointing for me. Both the shimmery brown and the matte khaki are nice and silky but the two teals are disappointingly sheer and patchy (see eye makeup photos below). The colors are buildable but I just found the texture dry and difficult to blend. Therefore, I'd recommend using a cream base underneath to achieve a more seamless result.

Here is a look I created with the sparkly teal, the matte deep teal, and the matte khaki from the palette. On the lower lashline, I applied the Ombre Premiere Creme in "830 Memory" as a liner and I used the Signature de Chanel Eyeliner Pen for the upper lashline. As you can see, the teal shadows are noticeably patchy, which is really unfortunate because both colors are just so stunning!

Chanel Le Vernis in "578 New Dawn" ($32 CAD):
Two new shades of Le Vernis nail polish are introduced as part of the Travel Diary Collection and I have here "578 New Dawn". This is a beautiful taupe-greige with a nice and creamy formulation. I used two coats below for an even and opaque coverage.

Chanel Retractable Dual-Tip Concealer Brush ($66 CAD):
Last but not least, Chanel introduces a retractable, dual-ended concealer/blender brush. It's not specified on the packaging what type of fiber is used but from what I can tell, the fluffy blender side is made with animal hair while the flattened concealer side is made with synthetic fibers. Similar travel-friendly kabuki brushes, these have a brush guard that you can pull up in order to protect the bristles while replacing the caps. Overall, this is a very high-quality and well-constructed brush (as would be expected from Chanel).

For me, the standouts from this collection are the Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick, the Ombre Premiere Creme, and the gorgeous Le Vernis shade! What are your thoughts on this collection? Will you be picking anything up? Share with me in the comments below!
