When it comes to eye makeup, I like to stick to subtle neutrals and everyday colors. However, I also like to jazz things every once in a while with a bold metallic or a fun glitter shadow and that's why I've been dying to try the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($31 CAD). Receiving rave reviews from all across the beauty community, these liquid shadows are packed with sparkly glitters that promise to stay put all night long. So are they as amazing as everyone claims? Read my review to find out......
Packaging:
The Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow liquid shadows are housed in a clear acrylic tube adorned with a matte gold cap and shiny gold embossings. The cap is attached to a doe-foot applicator with a flattened design. The packaging feels very sleek and simple and the applicator makes it easy to apply the shadows without getting glitter everywhere.
Formulation:
I've previously reviewed Stila's Magnificent Metals Eye Liner and the Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow and these Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow are supposedly a new and improved version of the two. However, effect-wise, these are quite different. Both the Magnificent Metals liner and foil shadow have a chrome, metallic-speck finish while the Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows have a super glittery and sparkly finish.
When first applied, the product has a gritty, but blendable liquid texture. The formulation sets within 30 seconds so you have to blend very quickly and I would recommend using your fingers and a dabbing motion instead of a brush to attain a more intense effect. Once set, the product stays put very well but it isn't smudge-proof or water-proof. There is minimal fallout but the glitters will transfer a bit if touched.
"Bronzed Bell" is a beautiful light bronze packed with silver iridescent sparkles. The shade has some base pigments but it's mostly a glitter topper so I would recommend using another shadow underneath. "Diamond Dust", on the other hand, is completely composed of iridescent and holographic glitters. Because it doesn't provide any pigmentation, it definitely needs to be worn on top of other shadows. Both shades are packed with glitters so you don't have to worry about not getting enough shine. However, the formulation does dry a tad chunky so you have to be mindful and not apply too much along the lash line or else your liquid eyeliner might dry a bit cakey.
Overall, these are as every bit as awesome as Stila claims. The over-the-top glittery effect may not be for everyone but if you love a glamorous and fun eye look, definitely check out the range! Above is a look I did with the shade "Bronzed Bell". I used it over a warm brown called "Strapless" from Too Faced and also dabbed a bit on my lower lash line.
So what are your thoughts? Have you tried these glittery eyeshadows? Are you a fan of the glittery eye makeup?
