For the longest time, I was not a fan of liquid lip balms. However, within the last few years, I've slowly started incorporating more and more of them into my night time routine. The liquid formulations tend to be richer than stick lip balms and therefore, they provide the extra nourishment the lips need to look plump and softened in the morning. I'm pretty faithful to my Jack Black lip balms but have recently been giving the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask ($24 CAD) a test run. To read my review of the product, click......
Packaging:
The LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask is housed in a pretty frosty pink plastic jar. You get a total of 20g of product and included is a small silicone spatula for scooping up the mask. The jar format is awfully inconvenient considering the mask could have easily been packaged in a squeeze tube. The spatula allows you to avoid dipping your finger directly into the jar but you still have to wipe it clean after each use. Therefore, I feel less inclined to use this regularly when all I want to do at night is slap on some lip balm and head to bed.

Formulation:
With a rich but non-sticky texture, the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask is made with shea butter, candelilla wax, hyaluronic acid, and a "Berry Mix Complex" consisting of extracts of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry. The formulation has a light scent of strawberry and it spreads nicely on the lips, immediately providing a even layer of hydration.
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask |
As compared to your average stick lip balm, the formulation is a lot more moisturizing and long-lasting, as long as you aren't doing any eating or drinking before heading to bed. As compared to my favorite lip balm of all time, the Jack Black Moisture Therapy Lip Balm, this Lip Sleeping Mask was a surprisingly worthy opponent. In terms of softening and nourishing, the mask did just as well as the Jack Black. However, the formulation of the LANEIGE is lighter and fades away more quickly. So in the morning, my lips don't feel as plump and moisturized.
Overall, this is a pretty impressive night time lip balm that's hydrating and nourishing. The formulation fell just a bit short of the Jack Black Lip Balms but it does feel lighter and has a delicious strawberry scent. For me personally, the jar packaging is definitely a nuisance so I hope LANEIGE will repackage this in a squeeze tube in the future!
