Not too long ago,
Benefit launched an extensive brow collection and I've been eyeing the brow pencil for a while now. Made with a unique "goof-proof" tip that easily defines and fills, the
Goof Proof Brow Pencil ($32 CAD) is available in six different shades to accommodate most hair colors. So how well does this product work? I've got the full scoop! To read my review and see a before and after swatch, click.....
Packaging:
The Goof Proof Brow Pencil comes in a whimsical shiny silver dual-ended pencil with an ergonomic triangular barrel. On one end you get 0.34g of product, which is considerably a lot less compared to your average brow pencil. On the other end, you get a small spoolie, which is is very handy for grooming and blending. The brow pencil lead is twist-up and retractable and it has a unique diamond shape made for precise lining and easy filling.
Formulation:
Available in six shades, the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil caters nicely to most hair colors. "
06 Deep" is a super dark brown that's not too red or ashy for my black hair. As someone who doesn't like any redness in my brow liner, I'm very happy that Benefit included a dark brown that's almost as good as a deep gray.
In terms of the formulation, the Goof Proof Brow Pencil is decent but not perfect. It's not overly creamy or pigmented, which is good, but it's slightly more creamy than what I'm used to. Also, the color applies a bit patchy on my brows so I found that I had to go in with a few extra strokes, which tends to result in a slightly darker look than what I was going for. However, where the pencil really fell short is the wear. I have oily skin around my brow area so I will usually experience some fading and transferring but the Goof Proof Brow Pencil smudged a ton. Compared to my favorite Shiseido brow pencil, the Benefit formulation is not waxy enough and as a result, the pigments don't adhere well enough to the skin. Once my brow area becomes oily, the product simply slides and smudges like crazy.
Overall, I love the wide color selection and the convenient packaging. However, the application and the wear of the formulation is not great. If you have normal to dry skin, the product might wear okay but if you experience even a moderate amount of sebum or sweat production, the brow color will be
very prone to smudging and fading.
