In addition to some fabulous
palettes, the unique and colorful
Urban Decay x Basquiat Collection is also offering up some bright eyeliners and collector-worthy lipsticks. Inspired by the artworks of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, every color in this limited edition range is carefully curated to reflect the artist's unique and radical style. Urban Decay x Basquiat 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($25 CAD):
With a simple design that bears only the UD x Basquiat logo, these 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are new shades inspired by the colors Basquiat used in his artworks. "
Post Punk" is a yellowed lime green; the color is a lot tamer than I would have liked and I found the pigmentation to be a bit inferior. "
Anatomy" is a gingerbread brown, the formulation is very pigmented and rich. "
Vivid" is a bright sky blue; again, this shade is much sheerer than I expected. In the swatches below, I only used one swipe of the brown while the other two colors needed to be built to an opaque coverage.
All three shades are creamy and super smooth. Unfortunately, the longevity is lackluster. The brown wore a bit better than both the green and the blue but they were all prone to smudging. The blue and the green, especially, will crease and fade when worn on the waterline.
Urban Decay x Basquiat Lipstick ($21 CAD):
Housed in the classic Vice Lipstick tube that's wrapped with a layer of canvas printed with Basquiat's artwork, these lipsticks are undoubtedly unique and collection-worthy. All three colors are brand new to the collection; two are creams and one is a comfort matte.
"
Abstract" is a pale beige nude; the formulation is just a tad sheer but it builds very nicely. "
Epigram" is a rich cinnamon cream; this one is super pigmented and flattering, it kind of reminds me of a more intense version of the
bareMinerals GEN NUDE Lipstick in "Panko". Last but not least, "
Exhibition" is a bright orchid pink with a satin-matte finish. The formulation for the two creams are not as slick as I had expected but the color is pretty moisturizing and long-wearing. The matte, on the other hand, is very pigmented and creamy.
