New from
Too Faced come a gorgeous trio of baked highlighters called the
Love Light Prismatic Highlighter ($38 CAD). Available in a classic champagne, a pretty rose gold, and an all-out gold, the highlighters promise a buildable pearlescent glow. However, the makeup community seems pretty split on the formulation so to break it down for you, I have some swatches and a review to share......
Packaging:
Housed in an ultra reflective chrome-coated plastic compact shaped like a heart, the Love Light Prismatic Highlighter is nothing short of stunning. The powder inside is pressed with a geometric design and you have the "TF" monogram embossed in the center. Each powder is actually 9g, which is quite a generous amount, considering the recently released Benefit Dandelion Twinkle highlighter is only 3g and costs the same price.
Formulation:
Before testing out these highlighters, I read quite a lot of negative reviews. Although I agree with some of the complaints they brought up, I have to say that I quite like these highlighters. With a super fine and silky texture that's free of large and gritty sparkles, the Love Light Prismatic Highlighters swatch super pigmented when you swipe your fingers directly onto the powders. However, if you apply the highlighters with a fan brush or even just a loose powder brush, you really can't pick up a lot of product. Even if you try to build, all you get is a subtle glow-from-within type of look, which is totally fine by me because that's the look I prefer.
Because the product doesn't build well when applied with a loose brush, I can see why lots of people are left unimpressed. However, if an intense strobing effect is what you want, you can totally apply the Love Lights directly using your fingers and blend if needed. I tried applying that and I was impressed with the intense sheen. You can also use a denser stippling brush, which works much better than a fan brush. Overall, I think this is an under-appreciated and perhaps misunderstood highlighting range. If you prefer that buttery-rich and intense one sweep highlight, these will leave you disappointed. However, if you are looking for a subtle soft glow, definitely check these out in person!
Blinded by the Light: This is a soft pale champagne. I think out of the three, this is the most natural shade because when lightly dusted across the cheeks, it provides a subtle sheen without much pigmentation.
Ray of Light: A soft rose gold, Ray of Light is my personal pick out of the three as it gives a soft hint of color and a subtle golden glow.
You Light Up My Life: The most pigmented out of the three, this is a rich golden shimmer for those looking for a pure gold highlighter.
