Tarte is churning out tons of new releases this season and
The Lip Architect Lipstick & Liner ($31 CAD) has certainly caught my eyes! I rarely use lip liners and the main reason is that it's hard to find shades that exactly match my favorite lipsticks. Well, Tarte is making things simple with a two-in-one lip product that holds a matching lip liner and lipstick. To see some swatches of all six shades available and read my review, click......
Packaging:
The Lip Architect Lipstick & Liner comes in a shiny gold dual-ended lip crayon. The liner side is skinnier while the lipstick side is fatter. Both leads are twist-up and retractable so no sharpener is needed! You get 0.1g of liner and 0.4g of lipstick, which really isn't a lot given that the standard lipstick is ~3.2g while the standard lip liner is ~1.2g. Nevertheless, you do get the convenience of two products in one sleek, travel-friendly packaging.
Formulation:
With a soft matte finish, the lip liner side of The Lip Architect is nicely pigmentated and not too drying. The color glides fairly smoothly but there is some noticeable variation between the different shades, both in terms of coverage and smoothness.
The lipstick side features a very slippery and lightweight texture with a pretty natural sheen. Again, there is some discrepancy in terms of coverage and pigmentation between the different shades so see below for a detailed review of each. Overall though, all of them are pigmented enough to be worn on their own. In terms of longevity, the lipsticks are just okay so it's a good thing that they are paired with their own lip liners. The lip liners aren't the best as I noticed some subtle blurring and feathering of the formulation a couple hours after wear (with only minimal drinking).
Diva: This is a rich berry, one of the most pigmented shades out of the collection. Both the liner and the lip color applies very well and have a nice and even coverage.
Romantic: A soft baby pink, Romantic is very pigmented and even despite being such a pale shade.
Muse: This is a very pale pink-peach. Both the liner and the lip color are just okay in terms of pigmentation so I would recommend lining your entire lips with the liner and not just the rim to ensure a complete coverage.
Cutie Pie: My favorite out of the bunch, Cutie Pie is a warm rosewood with a lovely and creamy formulation.
Daisy: This is a yellow peach nude. In terms of formulation, this one was the most problematic. The liner felt chalkier compared to the others and the lipstick was very thin and uneven.
Sweet Pea: This is a soft peach nude with a nice and rich formulation. I had no problems with pigmentation and the coverage is great.
Overall, I really like the idea of this product. The color selection is a bit limited and in my opinion, there are too many peach nudes! I had some problem with a couple of the paler shades but Sweet Pea, Romantic, Cutie Pie, and Diva are all very lovely!
