Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter ($39 CAD):
The "rainbow highlighter" trend was pretty big last year with several indie brands releasing their own rendition. For Summer 2017, Tarte is taking their spin on the concept with a four-tone powder highlighter. It's not quite a rainbow, but this 5.6g highlighter includes a cool pearl, a light champagne, a pale baby pink, and a light lavender.
The four shades can be swirled together or applied right next to each other but either way, they give a cool, frosty sheen to the face. The formulation is very soft and buttery and there aren't any large glitter chunks. You can sort of achieve a rainbow effect by swiping your brush straight along the colors but the four shades are not pigmented enough (although they are very shimmery) to create the full-on spectrum. Lastly, I wish this highlighter had a prettier looking compact. The champagne beige packaging looks a bit dull, something pearly, iridescent, and colorful would have been a much better pairing.
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Tarteist PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter in "Stunner" ($35 CAD):
Housed in a convenient squeeze tube with a fine nozzle spout, the Tarteist PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter in "Stunner" is a shimmery warm champagne. The formulation is quite concentrated so just a teeny tiny dab can go a long way. The creamy texture blends out easily to a dry finish and you can either go for a natural sheen or build to an intense shimmer. I'm honestly not a big fan of cream/liquid highlighters but this one is nice enough that I would wear it on occasion. Plus, the longevity is not bad. Compared to powder highlighters, the PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter clings better to the skin for a longer-lasting wear.
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter ($20 CAD):
A fun and sparkly loose glitter powder, the Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter is housed in a small 1.8g jar. The powder dispenses from two small holes and I honestly found them a bit annoying to work with. A few more holes could have been more convenient but I get it, glitter can get real messy real fast.
Although super sparkly, the glitter has a fine and non-gritty texture. You get a mix of iridescent gold, pink, green, and silver shimmers. The product can be dabbed on the lips to jazz up any eye makeup or loosely dusted on the decolletage to add a little sheen.
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Tarteist PRO Glitter Liner in "Rose Gold" ($31 CAD):
A dual-ended liquid eyeliner, the Tarteist PRO Glitter Liner applies with a super fine brush applicator. On one side you get a shimmery, almost chrome-like soft rose gold while on the other end you get a very glittery mix made of iridescent pink, gold, and copper glitters suspended in a clear base.
Both shades are well-formulated. The metallic rose gold is super opaque while the glitter side is sheerer. Both take a few minutes to completely set but once they've dried, they are pretty smudge-proof.
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in "Fairytale" ($24 CAD):
A super matte liquid lipstick collection from Tarte (see my reviews of the core shades here), the Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints is welcoming a few new shades for the summer and I have here the jaw-dropping "Fairytale". This is a super bright mint teal. Pigmentation-wise, the color is pretty opaque but the color differs so much from my natural lip color, any sheerness or streaking will look very obvious. Therefore, I needed to build a few swipes to obtain a mostly opaque coverage. The scentless formulation applies very smoothly and sets to a transfer-proof finish. The wear is pretty drying, even for a liquid lipstick but I guess that's the price you pay for a quick-drying true matte finish.
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara ($27 CAD):
I tried this Tarte mascara years back and wasn't wowed but man this new limited edition packaging is stunning! The original plastic tube is housed in a fabric casing that has a mermaid scale appearance. It's shimmery, shiny, and oh so collectible!
Tarte Summer 2017 Limited Edition Magic Wands Brush Set ($51 CAD):
If you've ever scrolled through your Instagram explore page, you've no doubt seen these stunning "unicorn horn" makeup brushes from Tarte. Made with synthetic bristles, this set of brushes are equipped with the most eye-catching and shiny gold handles designed to mimic the appearance of unicorn horns.
In the set, you get a large tapered powder brush, a dense, flat-edged contour brush, a medium liquid foundation/blush brush, a small flat eyeshadow brush, and a fluffy blending brush. Everything feels nicely made; there were a tiny bit of shedding (just a few hairs) but the bristles are very soft and fluffy. If you want these you better move quickly because they will sell out!
