Buxom is not a brand that I'm very familiar with but recently I've been testing out their
Shimmer Shock Lip Stick ($23 CAD) range so today I wanted to share with you some swatches and my review. Available in 12 sparkling shades, these lightweight gel lipsticks promise a juicy burst of color that's full of sophisticated shimmer. To read on, click......
Packaging:
Housed in a chubby crayon pencil, the Buxom Shimmer Shock Lip Stick has a pointed tip that twists up and retracts with a twist of the colored base. The lead is quite thick but a couple of them broke off of the base when I first swatched the colors.
Formulation:
With a slick and gel-light formulation, the Buxom Shimmer Shock Lip Sticks are semi-sheer lip colors with a very shiny and reflective finish. All 12 shades are packed with a ton of iridescent shimmer specks but none of the colors feel rough or gritty. The finish for a few of the colors feel a bit tacky but generally speaking, these are very hydrating and comfortable. The colors cling pretty well to the lips but they will transfer with eating and drinking so touchups are needed. Overall, I quite like these. Shimmery lips aren't my usual cup of tea but with such a shiny yet comfortable finish, the Shimmer Shock Lip Sticks have totally won me over!
Aftershock: Described as a "raspberry spark", Aftershock is a gorgeous warm berry shimmer. The formulation is very pigmented and bold.
Thunderbolt: This is a plum-brown with a splatter of cool-tone sparkles. This shade is on the sheerer side so I did have to layer quite a few swipes.
Supercharged: This is a rich and pigmented plummy shimmer.
Atomic Allure: A dark plummy pink, Atomic Allure is another pigmented and buildable shade.
Sexy Surge: This is a light cool barbie pink. This one is sheer but buildable.
Fireball: A bright coral-red, Fireball has an extra juicy and shiny finish. The formulation is pigmented but translucent at the same time.
Dynamite: This is a saturated mandarin orange red. This shade is one of the most pigmented out of the bunch.
Uncontrollable: A milky papaya orange, Uncontrollable's shimmers are pretty subtle. The formulation is sheer but buildable.
Pyre: This is a cool pink beige. The formulation is sheer but not patchy.
Volatile: A soft beige nude, Volatile is pretty pigmented for such a light color.
