For the past couple of years, matte lips were pretty much the hottest thing in beauty and from the looks of it, this trend is showing no signs of stopping because Burberry has just released a new line of matte cream lip colors called the Liquid Lip Velvet ($38 CAD). Available in 14 beautiful shades, this line promises a velvet finish and a long-lasting wear. To see some swatches of a few shades and read my review of the formulation, click.......
Packaging:
The Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet comes in a frosty lip gloss tube with a gunmetal-colored cap that's embossed with the iconic Burberry tartan print. The liquid lipstick is equipped with a standard doe-foot applicator but the neck of the doe-foot is unusually flexible. As a result, the wand is very bendy and flimsy, making it quite hard to precisely apply the lip color.
Formulation:
With a whipped and lightweight formulation, the Liquid Lip Velvet feels slightly chunky and silicon-y at first but it soon smooths out to a creamy and comfortable texture. All three colors that I've swatched here are very pigmented and completely opaque. The finish isn't as matte as I had hoped but it certainly takes on a velvety texture. The Liquid Lip Velvet isn't your traditional liquid lipstick so it actually does not set to a transfer-proof finish. With that said, the colors wear pretty well because of how pigmented they are. Overall I quite like these but I don't find them to be very innovative or revolutionary. Just off the top of my head, a few very similar products include the L'Oreal Pro-Matte Glosses and the Lise Watier Baiser Velours. With that said, the Burberry Liquid Lip Velvets definitely offer up some classy packaging and a very sophisticated shade range.
No.17 Dark Rosewood: This is a gorgeous brown rose that's right up my alley. The pigmentation is phenomenal so the coverage is just flawless!
No.37 Regiment Red: I love my reds but I found this bright red to be a tad over-the-top. The color is crazy bright in person so it's not for the faint of heart.
No.05 Fawn: Appearing quite dull and pale in the tube, this shade looks rose brown on my arm swatches but on the lips it appeared more as a neutral beige. I am usually not a fan of nude lips but this one was surprisingly wearable. Plus, the pigmentation is phenomenal and I didn't experience any patchiness.
