For Spring 2017,
Yves Saint Laurent is updating its Baby Doll lineup with a new collection of matte, dual-shade lip and cheek colors called the
Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick ($40 CAD). Designed for the cheeks and the lips, these adorable cream color sticks can be used to create various trendy makeup effects. To see some swatches and read my review, click......
Packaging:
The Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick from YSL is a cream color that dispenses from a twist-up and retractable tube. The stick is divided into two distinct shades and you get a total of five grams. The packaging is very compact and handy so it's definitely a great on-the-go product!
Formulation:
Like the original YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush (reviewed
here), the Kiss & Blush Duo Sticks are designed for both the lips and the cheeks. These are essentially cream colors with a lightweight and easy-to-blend texture. The pigmentation is great but it's easy to control just how intense the application is. The finish is mostly matte and each shade is a combination of two different colors. "
1 From Marrakesh to Paris" combines a bright fuchsia and a summery coral while "
6 From Prude to Nude" combines a soft nude and a pretty brown-rose. Both shade combos are sprinkled with just a touch of shimmers but their effect is very subtle and barely noticeable. The two colors within each stick can be used on their own, blended together to create an ombre effect, or mixed completely for a whole new color.
For me, these work great as cream blushes. I simply dab a few dots on my cheeks and blend for a very natural soft flush. However, I do not like using these for the lips because of the overly silicone-y texture. I tried creating an ombre effect but found the product to be very drying and unforgiving. The formulation highlights fine lines and settles around any dry patches on my lips, making them look shriveled and parched (check out lip swatches of the original
Baby Doll Kiss & Blush to see what I mean). With that said, I still quite enjoy these. The formulation works great on the cheeks but I personally don't think they are as multi-functional as YSL intended them to be.
